Rock all night with Des Moines' KISS tribute
From: dmjuice.com

Deuce, a KISS tribute band composed of members of local rock bands, performs Saturday in Urbandale.

The idea for the band came when Josh Brainard and Joe Corigliano saw the KISS tribute band Strutter play at the House of Bricks in 2004.

"After the show, we talked about starting our own tribute band," said Corigliano, who is the drummer for Calous. "I thought we could do better than Strutter. All of us had been KISS fans since we were kids, dressing up as them for Halloween and playing KISS covers in our bands growing up. Once we got into the thick of it, we found that doing a KISS tribute is more challenging than one may realize and we respect every tribute band for that."

"They're the reason why most of us play in bands today," said Erich Tran, 30, the guitarist for Only. "It seemed very natural to pay tribute to some of our musical influences."

Like the real KISS, Deuce members wear elaborate costumes and face paint.

"It probably takes a good hour to get into makeup and costumes," Tran said. "KISS fans are very observant, so we try to give them their money's worth when they come to the shows."

The playlist includes KISS hits "Rock and Roll All Night" and "Detroit Rock City."

Few bands inspire the intense fanaticism that KISS does.

"I think there are quite a few things that cause it," Corigliano said. "Everyone had their favorite character.

"Also there is the huge stage show that nobody else has. All of that together was something that no one had seen before and no one does it better. Plus, the music rocks."
