Japan Trip
From: KISSAsylum.com

Sorry for the delay but needed a few days to get caught up with orders and the website!!

Another wonderful trip to Japan. Going to Japan for me and Russell is a lot like going home to visit family. We both have so many close friends there we have made over the years. The Japanese people in general are such thoughtful and nice people and Japanese KISS fans are even nicer!! Everyone is so helpful, they will do what ever they can for you.

Anyway, here goes...

My wife Michelle, my friend Steve and I arrived first at Narita Airport Friday afternoon and were greeted by expo promoter Takeshi. Then we waited for everyone else's planes to arrive. First to arrive was Russ and Al Soluri along with Richie Scarlet and his band. A few minutes later Eric, John Corabi, Chuck Garric and Bob Kulick emerged from customs. After saying hello to everyone we headed to the hotel while the band waited on Bruce's flight to arrive. After checking in, we had dinner and everyone decided to go to bed early.

Saturday morning after breakfast we headed over to ESP Musical Academy, the venue where the expo was held this year. We met with the expo staff and the crew from ESP and then set up our merchandise tables. KISS Asylum's Peter Arquette arrived and set up his tables too. Sound checks were next. First up tribute band KISS DOLLS. The Richie Scarlet Band was next followed by ESP. The sound in the room was great! (We did record both ESP shows and Chuck is working on them now to see if we will release a CD).

The doors opened and a rush of fans entered the room. Many familiar faces and a lot of happy reunions with our many Japanese friends! About a half hour later ESP did a Q&A. These are always funny with some lost in translation jokes. But over all it was quite obvious how happy the fans were to be seeing the guys again. Right after the Q∓A, the band signed autographs and took photos for over 2 hours.

Around 5 PM the musical portion of the Expo began with KISS DOLLS performing first for 1/2 hour and then Richie Scarlet for around 45 mins. Both acts were well received by the crowd and put on strong performances! Next up the main attraction - ESP!!

ESP took the stage for about 90 mins. performing many KISS classics including "Parasite", "Watching You", "Domino", I Love It Loud", "She", "Jungle", "Unholy", "Nothing to Loose" and "Black Diamond" with Eric on lead vocals. They also performed covers of Motley Crue, Deep Purple and Union. Bob Kulick joined them on "Wouldn’t you like to Know Me", "Larger than Life", "All American Man" and rejoined them on the encore of "Rock and Roll All Night"! If you have not had the pleasure of seeing ESP with Chuck Garric, do yourself a favor and get out and see him!! I have seen 4 ESP shows with Chuck in the band and he was the star of all 4!!

Sunday's expo was very similar to the first day. Japanese Tribute band Kiku Hole played instead of KISS Dolls and Richie Scarlet joined ESP on "Rock and Roll All Night". ESP also changed the set around a little adding Union's "Do your own Thing" and the Beatles "Oh Darling". All and all 2 great Expos.

Monday morning we said good bye to John, Chuck, Bruce and Bob and then spent the day shopping in Tokyo with friends before heading over to Eric's drum clinic for Pearl Drums. The store owners told me this was the best turn out for a drum clinic and in their opinion the best clinic ever. I guess you need to be a drummer to appreciate these clinics!

Tuesday morning my wife went watch shopping with Eric before she left for the US and Eric flew to Australia for a well deserved vacation. The rest of Get a Life Inc spent the day at Disneyland and Disney Sea with some close Japanese friends. A wonderful day and a great ending to another great KISS trip.
