KISS Wife Tells All
My life with Peter was a struggle, says Lydia Criss.
From: ibergen.no

Peter (Criss) and Ace (Frehley) used to beg for their songs to be on a Kiss-album. Granted their songs might not have been as good as Gene and Paul's songs, but they were usually given one song each per album. That being said, I am sure both Peter and Ace were very frustrated and it caused them to be "bad boys", she says to iBergen.no.

Lydia Criss is the ex-wife of legendary Kiss-member PETER CRISS (60), and is releasing a tell-all coffee table book called "Sealed With A KISS" this month. In the book, she discusses her life together with the famous drummer and the band once labelled as "The Hottest Band In The World".

According to her, there was never room for any doubt regarding who were the bosses in the band, and which members who should just do as they were told.

- My outlook on the whole thing, was that Gene and Paul started this band called Wicked Lester. They had songs already written and wanted to keep it that way, Criss says.

Met while playing the clubs

PETER CRISS met his future wife in 1966, while playing a club in Brooklyn, NYC. The pair got married four years later, and stuck together in the years when KISS rose from the clubs of New York to the heights of international fame. The couple split up in 1979, shortly before PETER CRISS left KISS and was replaced by ERIC CARR.

In her forthcoming book, Lydia Criss lets the fans in on the couple's private life between 1966 and 1979, and presents more than a thousand private and never before seen photos of PETER CRISS, herself and KISS.

"I wanted to always be able to remember the good times, so I would always have my little Kodak camera with me. KISS's fans get to see the behind the scenes antics and fun we were all always experiencing. It is a look at all the memories that I accumulated over the years with Peter and KISS. The book is a coffee table book, measuring 10" x 12" and has 368 color glossy pages. There is a 120,000 plus text manuscript and over 1,500 unseen photos, articles and memorabilia. By the way it weighs 4 1/2 lbs," Criss says.

I have taken the high road

While much of the book deals with the couple's happy days, there's no denying that it also touches on some more delicate subjects, like the break-up of their marriage in the late seventies.

"My life with Peter was a struggle, as commonly expected with young married couples. Our marriage was different just because in those days the wife didn't go to work. I really feel that I was very innovative at that time. I didn't care that my family felt that I was stupid in doing what I did. I had faith in Peter and that Peter would be something, he would be successful, she says, although admitting that the pair never expected him to be quite as big as he eventually became in KISS."

When writing the book, how did you approach the divorce? Do you leave out any dirt, or is this the big tell-all?

"I have taken the high road, while still telling the truth. I approach the end of my marriage just as I saw it. I left nothing out. It is probably the saddest part of the book. "

Have you had any contact with Peter about this book, or at all since you got divorced?

"I have seen Peter very seldom since our divorce. I think I can count the times I have seen him on one hand. I have had absolutely no contact with Peter about this book. "

Still friends with Ace After the divorce from Peter, Lydia Crass made a carreer as a professional photographer. A photo-shoot with Rod Stewart and a little help from legendary rock & roll/Kiss-photographer Bob Gruen led her to a breakthrough in the early 80's. Since then, she's made a living by photographing everyone from athletes, politicians, movie stars and rock stars.

She's also taken photos of ex-Kiss-guitarist ACE FREHLEY on numerous occations, including for his album "Live + 1" from 1988. The guitarist and his wife still remains one of Lydia Criss' best friends from the Kiss-days.

"Yes, I am still friends with Ace and Jeanette. He is like my 5th brother. I love them both," Criss says.
