They stood outside Leone for hours in downtown Vancouver wearing KISS t-shirts or hardly anything, some in full-on KISS makeup and all of them chanting "Gene, Gene, Gene." They had waited for hours, just to catch a glimpse of "the Demon."

He sat before me without his trademark rock-star makeup, but it didn't matter. He waved to the fans, whose screams magnified as the crowd pressed forward for a better look.

I watched them in fascination then turned to the rock icon and asked, "People really love you, don't they Gene?"

He replied with a wink, "Yes, and I like them too!"

Gene's famous line from GENE SIMMONS Family Jewels came to mind, "That's why it's good to be me!"

I'm sure it is - building on a triumphant music career with KISS, including branding more than 3,000 items with the KISS logo, and more recently the rock legend has taken the business world by storm with marketing ventures including the Indy Car Series amond other business ventures including a retail collaboration with talented Vancouver designer Jason Dussault.

Sitting with Gene at the launch of Dussault Apparel's MoneyBag collection at L2 I asked, "Why did you offer your trademarked MoneyBag logo to Jason's line of apparel an accessories?"

"Until I met Jason Dussault, I held of on really going out into the marketplace in apparel. It has to do with finding a kindred spirit - and Jason is it," says Gene. "A good partnership is like a relay, I run a certain part, hand over the baton, and Jason runs with it further."

"How would you describe the MoneyBag collection to someone who has never seen it?"

"Looks good, feels good. You touched it."

"I did touch it," I respond.

"Settle down now," Gene wags his finger playfully at me, followed by a chuckle.

The uber-sexy, luxurious MoneyBag collection features limited edition pieces, including handmade, hand-dyed or painted t-shirts and hoodies; premium 100% Italian leathers bags, Trucker Hats in a range of colours, a Money Belt or Money Buckle and my favourite - the MoneyBag Wallet.

I later asked Jason, "What makes his company and brand different from others in the lifestyle market?"

"Everything!" he said, "It's completely different, haven't seen a brand like ours. I've seen brands a quarter of the way there, but they don't take it all the way. High-end brands don't have the rocker, artistic, one-off-feel too them as Dusssault Apparel does."
