Book Of Poems In Honor Of Late KISS Drummer ERIC CARR Now Available From: Blabbermouth.net According to a KISS related website, each year the mother of late KISS drummer ERIC CARR (real name: Paul Caravello) writes a poem in remembrance of his tragic passing in November of 1991. Each November, the family places a copy of these poems at his resting place in the mausoleum at Cedar Hill Cemetary in New York. As it's 13 years ago this year that ERIC CARR passed away due to cancer, his mother Connie Caravello has now written 13 poems. All poems in Eric's honor written by his mother have been compiled in a heart-warming book, titled "Footsteps You Left Behind". Throughout the book, you'll also find several of Eric's personal photos. Each book is custom-made and personally signed by ERIC CARR's mother, and comes with a free ERIC CARR guitar pick. Each book costs $21.99 plus shipping and handling (and it only ships within the USA). For more info check out the official ERIC CARR web site (www.ericcarr.com). From: KISSAsylum.com by Keith Leroux Hi Everyone!! I got a nice phone message this morning from my friend Matt Campbell. Matt phoned to wish me a Merry Christmas from Iraq!! Matt - I can't say it enough - THANK YOU!! I hope your day was peaceful and I look forward to next December when you return! Had a nice little Christmas get together with ERIC SINGER and BRUCE KULICK last weekend, when my friend Rich and I flew to LA, though we sadly missed our mentor Russ Dannecker who was involved in a car accident in NY. Russ is fine but the car was totaled. Went to the Lakers with Eric on Friday and then had a late dinner with Eric, Bruce and Bruce's girlfriend Mina! Mina is very sweet and seems to keep Bruce somewhat in line (just kidding Bruce!). [more] Merry KISSMas! In an early November article published in the magazine, Rolling Stone quoted a concert-industry source as saying, "A lot of the heavy acts do that [use backing tapes] — they thicken up the guitar sounds when they play live. KISS has backing tracks galore." In a letter to the magazine published in its latest issue, McGhee responded to the article with the following: [more] December 24 KISSMas Contest Winner From: KISSAsylum.com Tom Shafer from Mountaintop, PA — KISS Men's Hooded Sweatshirt Happy Holidays from Gene From: GeneSimmons.com by GENE SIMMONS Wishing you all an early and happy holiday season. KISSArmy Member Protecting America From: Matt Campbell Hello KISS Army soldiers, and fellow American service members. My name is Matt Campbell, and I am a SPC/E'4 with the Tennessee Army National Guard. I am currently deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom III. I have been a KISS fan for years, and despite the fact that I am deployed to a combat zone, doesn't mean that I can't have fun. I had my bass guitar sent over to me. A few of my buddies have acoustics, so we rock out whenever we have free time, which isn't very often. But, just letting you know, that KISS is with me wherever I go. We broke Iraq in right. We played "Deuce" the other night unplugged, in the desert, and it sounded pretty good. But, anyway, gotta run. Remember our troops over here, and let's not forget the reason we're here.(9/11) NEVER STOP ROCKIN!!! The work has grown so large, it's been split into three volumes - Volumes 2 (1983-96) & 3 (1996-) will be published during 2005. BRUCE KULICK Update From: Kulick.net by BRUCE KULICK Hello everyone! Sorry for the delay in my message, but I have been taking care of moving my elderly parents closer to me, which is a huge project. I knew I would be dealing with this as soon as I returned from my trip from Europe, and thankfully things are finally being worked out. Will be great to have them 10 minutes away instead of an hour from my home. On to my amazing journey. Started in Boston with the last GFR show of 2004. We hit the freak November snow storm that gave the beantown 6 inches and whipping cold weather but I looked at it as a reminder winter is here and I will be cold in Europe. Odd though that the weather that weekend in Boston was colder than anything I experienced in Switzerland etc! The Grand Funk show in Plymouth, MA was sold out and it was great to do yet another east coast show for the band. We hope to play more dates on that coast next year. The band and our special cyberfunker fans all had some drinks and food after the show. THANK YOU all for making 2004 a successful GFR year again! [more] The Class From: RockBeast.com Imagine School Of Rock but called The Class. Made up of five thirteen year olds students from Christs Hospital who three weeks ago were unable to play their instruments which tonight they played with ease. In that course of time GENE SIMMONS, yes the GENE SIMMONS from KISS has turned The Class around into a hard rocking five piece and were here tonight for a Channel Four documentary called 'Rock School'. After only three weeks The Class showed charisma, talent and a huge amount of guts playing to a sold out, rowdy Hammersmith Apollo. Lets hope like GENE SIMMONS said that these guys and girls can become the next generation of British rock n roll. DIMEBAG DARRELL To Be Buried In KISS KASKET From: blabbermouth.net The family of slain DAMAGEPLAN/ex-PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott has requested a "KISS Kasket" for Abbott to be buried in, KISS bassist/vocalist GENE SIMMONS revealed during an appearance on Fox News' "The Big Story Weekend Edition with Rita Cosby" on Saturday (Dec. 11). The coffin features the faces of the four founding members of KISS, the KISS logo and the words "KISS Forever". A transcript of Simmons' appearance on the program follows: Rita Cosby: Gene, it's great to see you, my friend. I wish it was under better circumstances. GENE SIMMONS: Thank you, thank you. Cosby: Now, I understand there was something special. This just came down recently. Darrell Abbott's family requested something sort of special tied with your band. Tell us about it. Simmons: Well, I wasn't really prepared to talk about it, but the family requested, as a personal issue between the family and the grieving people who are going to be there, to send a KISS Kasket. We initially did it as a promotion. And you know, I think it meant a lot to Darrell when, you know — when he was alive, he gave lots of people great joy. I mean he had the band tattooed onto his chest. He was a major figure in rock and roll. He's going to be greatly missed. And the family wish — you know the one last wish they had was that he be buried in a KISS Kasket. And I think it's a private matter for the family and the fans actually. ACE FREHLEY Interview in January 2005 Guitar World From: Guitar World Magazine The January 2005 Issue of Guitar World (with Henry Garza of Los Lonely Boys on the cover) is on sale now and includes an interview with ACE FREHLEY. Some Highlights: Where did you get the idea for the smoking guitar? How did you make it work? And did it ever get out of hand and cause serious damage? Ace: "In the early Seventies we were on tour in Canada and I bought some smoke bombs. I had just replaced the pickups on my Les Paul with hand-wound DiMarzios — which [Larry DiMarzio] was winding in his bedroom at the time — and I wondered if the smoke would come out of the pickup ring if a bomb was in the potentiometer. It worked, but it wasn't a great effect, and it badly gummed up my volume and tone controls. The idea manifested itself again when KISS got bigger. I got together with an engineer and developed a fake rhythm pickup that snapped into a box mounted in the guitar's body. We stuck the smoke bombs in there, and it worked fine. Sometimes, for a really big show, I'd have my tech pack in an extra-big bomb. When we did that, the metal plate on the guitar's back would heat up and burn my leg, or cause a little fire. When Paul [Stanley]and Gene [Simmons]sold a bunch of my costumes, I noticed that some of them had burn marks on the right leg." He was shot and killed at a Columbus, Ohio nightclub while performing with his new band Damageplan. Darrell was a huge KISS fan. He performed with KISS stickers gracing his guitars and proudly displayed a tattoo of Ace's Solo LP on his arm. With Pantera he opened for KISS during the Mexico City Reunion shows. I attended those shows and spoke with Dimebag about how great KISS was and how excited he was to be opening for them. Darrell was rocking out in the front row for each of the three KISS shows! He appeared on the front cover of Guitar magazine with Ace and also played/produced "Snowblind" on the Ace tribute CD "Return of The Comet". I've never liked it when a guitarist doesn't hold true to the original guitar parts that are signature to the way a song was written and recorded in the first place. Question #2 I was wondering if Tommy has ever been approached to be a guest at a KISS expo, and would it be something he would consider doing in the future, if time allowed. — Barbara Urban, Villa Hills, Kentucky [more] Rock The Nation CDs Still Available From: Newburycomics.com Newburycomics.com is offering Instant Live high-quality live discs of all 32 shows on KISS' "Rock the Nation" tour for $29.99 each.
