The book follows the upheaval of a business executive's personal and professional lives when her secret rock & roll life comes to light. Shaw was selling advance copies of her book at the NY/NJ KISS Expo on May 14, 2005. The writing is in ERIC CARR's handwriting. At the time, his name was Paul Caravello. The tape has Torpedo Girl which he plays drums along with, Shandi which he sings to and You Really Got Me and The Cradle Will Rock, 2 Van Halen songs which he plays drums to. The drums and vocals that he performs are on the right side of the recording and there is a note written by Eric telling the listener where the drums & vocals are. This tape is absolutely authentic and has been in my possession since 1987 when I bought it from KISS's former manager's warehouse. I listened to it and it works and sounds just fine. This is a rare, one of a kind, KISS collectible. Good luck bidding. Playboy - Russia From: KISSOnline.com The current issue of Playboy in Russia features the Girls of KISS. You heard right: Maul Stanley! We have no idea who he is or what this is all about, but we thought it was entertaining enough to share with our Sludgeaholics. Plus, it's Friday the 13th and a slow news day. It seems that Maul Stanley attended something called Star Wars Celebration III during the weekend of April 21-24, supposedly the largest Star Wars gathering in history. Star Wars actors, artists, props, special effects presentations, fans in costume... you get the idea. http://www.MetalSludge.tv/main/index.php?module=subjects&func=viewpage&pageid=998 Ace Site From: KISSAsylum.com by Keith Leroux I have been getting quite a few emails thanking me for my comments to Wendy Moore about not coming to my expo. Seems like there are a lot of fans out there who feel the same way. Here's one with a link to a great Ace Site run by Raina and Wolf: Keith, Just wanted to drop you a quick line of thanks from everyone at the ACE=GOD message board for your response to Wendy Moores request. Towner ERIC SINGER will join Ronnie Montrose on drums at the Saturday May 28th MONTROSE show at Rib Fest America St. Louis. NY Expo Weekend Review From: KISSAsylum.com by Keith Leroux I'm back in INDY and as promised here is a more detailed report of last weekend's NY KISS Expo. Expo attendance was really great, well over 1000 fans. There were a lot of dealers including Peter Arquette/KISS Museum, Warren from the KISS Magazine, Frank's Collectibles, Allen from Cincy and KISSshop. Over 100 tables I would guess. People selling just about everything, old and new, and some dealers selling things they should not have been selling. They learned the hard way. Police entered the event in the early afternoon and raided several dealers. From what I heard they took a few people away in police cars and confiscated all bootleg DVDs and CDs. Our KISSAsylum/KISSshop tables were in the back corner of the room next to ERIC SINGER's table. Eric signed autographs throughout the day. He was really accessible, staying for over 6 hours. Joe Lynn Turner and our buddy Karl Cochran had tables next to Eric. Lydia Criss was also there promoting her upcoming book. KISSNation, ZO2, Richie Ranno's All-Star Band and Jaded were also on hand and all performed live later in the day. KISSAsylum's own Russ Dannacker was on hand too. Chris Kiska and Mac from the Ace camp also stopped by to catch up. Thanks to all of our Asylum friends who came by to say hello!! It was really great seeing our old friends and meeting new ones. Leaving the expo I had an awkward moment with Wendy Moore though! She stopped me in the hall way and introduced herself and then asked why I wouldn't have her as a guest at my INDY KISS expo. I simply told her the truth. I'm friends with Ace and Ace has always been good to me. It's nothing personal with Wendy. She seems very nice but I just don't want to have any guest who is there promoting something negative. I promote KISS Expos to celebrate KISS, not to knock KISS. I'm not questioning what she has written; I just choose not to read it and certainly not help promote it at my expense. Well back to the weekend... [more] Cracked Mirror Story From: vintageibanez.tripod.com by Michael Wright Here's the story of one of the more interesting Ibanez guitars from the '70's, as told by Jeff Hasselberger himself. "The KISS boys were always good for a challenge or two. Rather than get wrapped up in the minutiae of fret crown shapes and potentiometer tapers, PAUL STANLEY knew what the important issues were - like should the pickguard be chrome plated or polished stainless. "Paul's legendary Mirror Ball Iceman is a perfect example of how to push the envelope of guitar technology. It started with a phone call from Paul about his idea to have a guitar that resembled a shattered mirror. His exact words, if I recall, were, "I want it to look like somebody hit a mirrored guitar with a hammer right on the pickups." "It sounded easy enough. I got some 1/8" mirror, cut it into the shape of an Iceman and smacked it in the pickup area with a ham- mer. What I ended up with was about 10,000 bits of mirror dust where the hammer hit and three other pieces. This was obviously not going to work. "I was going to have to cut each piece to look like it was shattered. I went out and got a lot more 1/8 mirror and a handful of glass cutters. I will write a full review after our flight home Monday. It was an exciting day to say the least. Rich Ranno put on another great event and attendance was high! ERIC SINGER stayed at his table for over 6 hours signing autographs and chatting with the fans. The RIAA showed up during the day with Federal officers and raided serveral dealers who were selling bootleg DVDs and CDs. RevolutionMusic 430 Speers Road - Oakville Email: info@revolutionmusic.ca Message From BRUCE KULICK From: Kulick.net by BRUCE KULICK Hello everyone! Happy to be home in the States, but I do miss my fans in Europe already. My trip started with a great KISS expo in Cincinnati. The weather was bizarre, snowy rain etc, but the fans were passionate and happy to party with the KISS clan. Next day I was off to Sweden to join Eric, John and Chuck as ESP. I arrived after a long layover in Paris' Charles DeGaulle airport (7 hours - ouch!) in Stockholm, Sweden where the weather was exceptional. Funny how Ohio had the typical Sweden weather! Anyway, got to the hotel, and after freshing up, off to the Hard Rock Cafe for some interviews and meet and greets with some special fans. KISS means so much in Sweden, so I always get alot of press there. (Thank you Erik from Expressen and Dr. Rock, your support is welcome). Next day the entire band went to do a radio interview and we were quite the comedy show... calling ESP means some nasty things as opposed to ERIC SINGER Project. Apparently you can use words not allowed on US radio in Sweden so we had some fun with that. [more] My Favorite Record: KISS Alive! KISS has never been the critics or the industry "insiders" choice, KISS is the band of the people. KISS has been warmly embraced by millions of fans for over 30 years and that's all that matters. Question #2 How often do you practice chords, solos, etc, alone? Is it at home? — Dave Bennett, Tulsa, Oklahoma Tommy: I still practice! Actually when we get closer to a tour I practice more but it's really like riding a bike. I've been playing KISS songs ever since I started playing guitar in 1974, so they're well ingrained. Question #3 Tell us something you suggested to Gene or Paul about the stage show that they changed because it was a good idea? — Bobby Fowler, Reno, Nevada Tommy: There might have been something, but I honestly don't recall. [more] Calling on the KISS Army for Help! From: Carlos Espada Greetings all, My name is Carlos Espada, bassist for KISS tribute band, New York City's KISSNATION. Recently my Axe bass was stolen from The New Jersey area. This particular bass is unique because I built it myself, from the ground up. It looks exactly like The GENE SIMMONS Axe Bass, with just a couple of unique features. The blade is somewhat rounder on my bass and there is only one master volume knob, whereas the GENE SIMMONS Axe has two. I built the bass by hand and it has been with me for almost 4 years. I cannot begin to express how much this bass means to me, but I’m sure that fellow KISS fans and especially fellow musicians can empathize. About the bass: It has a bolt on neck. It has a blank head stock with a crack on the top right side of the head. The blade of the bass is chipped on the back end of the blade. It has one master volume knob. It was in a black gig bag when it was stolen. I’m including some pictures in this post in hopes that someone within the KISS fan community might come forward with any information about my axe’s whereabouts. It is my belief that it was most likely stolen and pawned, but I believe that somehow it will work its way back into the KISS community. To anyone who has any knowledge of my bass’ whereabouts, any information would be dearly appreciated. To whomever has current possession of my bass, I will offer a reward for its return…no questions asked. ESP - Copenhagen, Denmark From: KISSAsylum.com by KISSAsylum reporter Dave, Sweden When KISS drummer ERIC SINGER announced that he was planning a European tour with his project ESP, a lot of people raised their eyebrows… Bands like ESP are hardly known by the average guy, but to a KISS fan this kind of event is quite hot. The band was playing in nightclubs big enough to fill up with "die hard fans". A lot of fans from the Scandinavian countries went to the gig ESP did in Copenhagen, Denmark. Most people seemed to agree on one thing... It was awesome!!! The fact that Eric and Bruce joined the stage together again was just wonderful. John Corabi also did a fantastic job and Chuck Garric... what a guy! The set list was a mix of songs by bands that the members of ESP play with or have played with before. They also did a couple of classics…mostly KISS and Union songs were performed, but also some songs by Mötley Crüe, BRUCE KULICK, Alice Cooper, GFR etc. The KISS songs were probably the most appreciated amongst the audience. Not very surprisingly, because I think a big part of the audience were pure KISS fans. (It's cool to hear material from 'Carnival of Souls' live.) But of course… songs like 'School's Out' and 'Born to Raise Hell', fired up the audience too! Well, what can I say? I mean, we never thought it was going to happen, then all of a sudden on Friday night, BAM! There we were being announced..."ALL RIGHT IRAQ...YOU WANTED THE BEST, YOU GOT THE BEST...THE HOTTEST BAND IN THE LAND, KISS ARMY!!! We were all very nervous, but once the opening notes of "Deuce" came out of Tommy Jackson's smoking Jackson Charvel, we knew there was no turning back. It was incredible! Our fellow soldiers didn't know what to think seeing four men in desert uniforms, KISS shirts, and makeup. Being that this was the first show for KISS Army In Iraq, we only played three songs, just to see how the crowd would react. We were expecting a few applause afterwards, but to our surprise, the troops went nuts! KISS/Star Wars From: KISSAsylum.com by Grant in NJ / KISS Asylum reporter This is too much! Last weekend some friends dragged me to the enormous Star Wars Celebration in Indianapolis. It was so huge that even George Lucas himself showed up — something I was told that he hasn't done in almost 20 years years! There were tons of Star Wars actors and fans in costume and whatnot, but the one thing that stood out to me was this one guy walking around looking like KISS! I'm not sure if anybody there got the reference, but it caught my attention right away because I am such a huge KISS fan! The guy was dressed up like the Star Wars character Darth Maul, with the long cloak and red-and-black face make-up. But in addition he also had a black star over his right eye! His costume had the traditional platform boots with chains, spandex pants, wrist studs, that kinda stuff. And he kept talking in KISS references! Said he was writing a new album with songs like "Maul Hell's Breakin' Loose" and "Tossin' and Turnin' to the Dark Side!" He was absolutely hilarious! Again, I'm not sure how many Star Wars fans got the KISS references, but my friends and I did and we thought he was the coolest guy at the convention. I'm enclosing a photo that we took, hopefully you can use it on your site. I figured your readers would get a kick out of this. It just goes to show you, KISS is EVERYWHERE! Grant |
