What a fantastic three days in Vegas and what a thrill to be a part of such a phenomenal and historic event! I took me 24-hours to fully recover and actually recall what happened! The four honored bands; Def Leppard, Judas Priest, Queen and of course KISS are literally my all-time favorite bands. The all-star jam with Slash, Scott Ian, Gilby Clark, Tommy Lee and especially Ace was incredible considering the fact that I'm also a huge fan of Ace, Motley, Guns, and Anthrax. The afternoon of the concert, Eric and I hung out at the pool with Brian May and Roger Taylor (of Queen) and Taylor Hawkins from the Foo Fighters - great guys! Later, as we were walking to the cars for the ride to the backstage area, I saw Ace for the first time in about four years. He gave me a big hug and told me how great it was seeing everybody again - he was pumped up for the evening. One side note, I was curious why BRUCE KULICK wasn't there. Bruce was the lead guitarist of KISS for 12 straight years, a huge slice of KISStory. If for some reason he doesn't receive a Rock Honors ring, I'm giving him mine. We ended the night with a massive display of pyro, our show kicked ass and we left Las Vegas on a high. It was a great celebration for the fans and the bands, and I was truly honored to be a part of such a monumental event. Gene: Backstage is a place most people don't ever see. Backstage is where you get to see Ace and I hugging and wishing each other well. It's where Brian May and Roger Taylor and Paul Rogers say how blown away they were by the set...and likewise from us to them...where Tommy Lee is jumping up and down after having played with Rob Zombie, Scott Ian, Gilby Clarke and Slash and shouting out loud what a ball he had...where Slash keeps saying how intimidating we are in our KISS boots...where four guys who wear KISS war paint take what they do seriously...and with gratitude to the fans who make it all possible. Our thanks to you for making our dreams come true. From: KISSOnline KOL: I know you like to keep KISSONLINE mainly focused on KISS, but can we ask you some PAUL STANLEY Questions? PAUL: Sure. Fire away! KOL: First off, how is married life? [more]
From: Indy Star Sure, there were costumed characters, marching bands, floats and giant helium balloons. But the 49th annual IPL 500 Festival Parade also featured Canadian cowgirls, Southern belles and a briefcase drill team. Spectators applauded Gov. Mitch Daniels, who led the Patriot Guard Riders on his Harley-Davidson, and cheered and whistled even louder for Lance Armstrong, the seven-time Tour de France winner who is this year's Indianapolis 500 pace car driver. Danica Patrick needed no announcer and drew some of the loudest screams. [more] From: Steve Huff I'm a 28 year KISS fan and I just returned from the VH1 Rock Honors show after scoring some pit passes (here on KISS Asylum) and it was AMAZING, I was in the 2nd row! This was a great show and all bands were fantastic but KISS ruled the night. After the all-star tribute with Rob Zombie, Tommy Lee, Slash, Gilby Clarke, Scott Ian and ACE FREHLEY we were treated to a 4 song mini concert from the gods of thunder. Detroit Rock City was so sweet with TONS of pyro even though the stage was smaller than normal. Paul came by us during Deuce and I was able to touch his Guitar while he jammed inches away! I've been in the 2nd row before but this was closer as there were no seats to get in the way. During Love Gun Tommy went up on the riser which is what I was leaning on before it was lifted! After Love Gun all of the bands came out on stage and KISS was asked to do one more song. They decided on Makin' Love and Paul warned it wasn't rehearsed but they sounded incredible. This was a GREAT experience and thanks to KISS Asylum, I was able to get a hold of these passes. Make sure you watch it on the 31st on VH1! It was an amazing night for rock and roll! From: NYC Kissfreaks This picture was taken at Dudleys last Saturday night. It was Steve "Budgie" Werner's (Ace's drummer) birthday bash. Ace came down to celebrate w/ us. In this photo is Budgie, Josh Galiani, the drummer of the Scrubs and Ace. Good time had by all, and the place rocked!!!!!!!! From: Michael Johns I just got home from the VH-1 Rock Honors Show and all I got to say is WOW!!!! It was FANTASTIC!! and there was a MAJOR special guest in the band that played their tribute to KISS. I ended up 2nd row in the pit partially between Tommy and Paul's mic stand, just to the left of the scissor jack platform that Tommy used to go up to the rafters. The band that did the tribute to KISS performed GOD OF THUNDER and consisted of: ROB ZOMBIE SLASH GILBY CLARKE SCOTT IAN TOMMY LEE and the 6th surprise member of the band was none other than ACE FREHLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [more] From: Blabbermouth Tom Van Riper of Forbes.com interviewed KISS bassist/vocalist GENE SIMMONS for a feature called "First Job." A couple of excerpts from the chat follow: Forbes.com: What was your first job? GENE SIMMONS: "I delivered the Long Island Star Journal in Jackson Heights, Queens, known as the Long Island Press on Sundays. Later, I picked up a second route, since I could put those papers in the same shopping cart. I had discovered you could make almost twice the money without putting in twice the time." [more] From: KISSOnline If you want rock and roll all night, KISS Coffeehouse will be the place to be. On Tuesday, June 27th, legendary KISS band members PAUL STANLEY and GENE SIMMONS will be on hand at Myrtle Beach South Carolina’s Broadway at the Beach to cut the ribbon on the most outrageous coffee and dessert shop ever constructed. Through a deal brokered by Signatures Network, Inc., KISS’s exclusive merchandising company, the KISS Coffeehouse in Myrtle Beach, SC is the first licensed coffeehouse by the band known for their incredible stage show, face paint and full throttle rock and roll. "The idea was to take the energy and excitement of the live KISS show and bring it into a retail setting," explains long- time KISS fan and storeowner Brian Galvin. "KISS fans will not be disappointed!" pledged Galvin, who knows firsthand the high expectations loyal KISS fans will have for this concept. The coffeehouse will also serve as an official KISS Army recruiting office, exposing new fans and reminding die-hard supporters why KISS continues to be one of the most exciting bands in history. [more] From: RichieScarlet.com Musical history was made just the other day when Richie Scarlet was playing at a benefit concert with "The Scrubs." To everyone's surprise, Richie was joined onstage by none other than ACE FREHLEY! The place went wild as Richie and Ace jammed out on "Jumping Jack Flash" and "Road House Blues". The fans were ecstatic to see Richie and the Ace together again onstage. The chemistry between them and their guitar style simply works! It was pretty obvious that the fans want more! From: Eric-Singer.com Hi Eric, Friends of mine ask me to name my favorite drummer, I always have two names for them ... TOMMY LEE and ERIC SINGER ... you make drumming look so simple ! OK, Two questions here: First question: I never got to see KISS with you and Bruce Kulick, after the KISS "makeup" wears off again, IS THERE A POSSIBLITY THAT KISS WILL REGROUP WITH THE 1992-1996 LINEUP AGAIN ? (also Carnival of Souls is a bad-ass album; great writing, great music) Second question: DO YOU HAVE DRUM LESSON DVD OUT ? I'd like to buy it if there is one out there ! Thanks for your time, BILLY from LOUISIANA ES: Thanx Billy for the major props ! Although the "Revenge" era KISS was a great one I think like all things it is part of KISSTORY now. You never know what the future holds when it comes to KISS but I think it is safe to say that the band is on course for a future in make-up. I did an instructional video called "All Access to Drumming" in 1996 that is available on DVD and I also did a beginners video for PEARL drums that comes with all there entry level kits to help you get started from the minute you open the box ! It is called an introduction to Drumming w/ERIC SINGER Dear Mr. Singer, Thank you for always being a professional and for always being kind to all of us crazy KISS fans. I loved the ESP album or I guess I should say CD to avoid showing my age! The way you guys put those songs down made them seem so fresh and the sound was just incredible. So many of your fans have loved the same artists you were influenced by and it was great to hear your take on those tracks. Do you foresee another ESP album anytime in the near future? Thank you for letting me take up your time and please keep us rocking, there aren't too many "new" artists out there that can!!! I was also wondering who your favorite Brown's player is? Thanks again, Howard Dayton, Ohio [more] From: KISSOnline.com KISS rehearsed in Los Angeles on Friday for the VH1 Rock Honors Show. Hab from Doc McGhee's office stopped by and snapped a few photos of the guys rehearsing. This was the first time KISS has played together since their one off corporate gig, Hondafest, last September in Ohio. ERIC SINGER told KISSonline "that while rehearsals started off just for Rock Honors, we ended up rehearsing half the set for the Japan shows. That's what's so great with this band. We haven't played in over eight months and we just picked up where we left off, like we've been playing every night on tour!" In other Rock Honor news, the all-star band playing as a tribute to KISS will be Slash, Rob Zombie, Scott Ian and Tommy Lee. Godsmack will be playing as tribute to Judas Priest, All American Rejects will be playing as tribute to Def Leppard and the Foo Fighters will be playing in a tribute to QUEEN. From: TommyThayer.com How long did it take for you to feel comfortable getting around in the moonboots? -- Julian Dillard, Albuquerque NM Not long at all. The boots are custom fitted, whereas a mold is actually taken of your foot and then a boot is built around that. You still have to be careful in the boots, especially on stairs. At what part of a show are you completely unaware of the audience because you have "entered the zone?" -- Francis Lignan, Oakland CA [more] From: VH1 At the first annual VH1 Rock Honors, members of KISS, QUEEN, Def Leppard and Judas Priest will be presented with a custom ring. Not your average show, not your average award… VH1 and Commemorative Brands, Inc. have produced 40 "class rings" to be awarded to the "VH1 Rock Honors" honorees. As we sing the praises of the artists whose music has made a lasting mark on the history of hard rock, VH1 will honor them with a 10 Karat white gold ring, with onyx, diamond and garnet stones. The "Rock Honors" ring celebrates the legends that have influenced the sound of hard rock for all time and symbolizes the long lived connection to heavy metal that will thrive as long as it is honored. Beginning this year, the ring will embark us onto a tradition that will continue to flourish for each generation to come. VH1's website has added a cool ROCK HONORS profile section on KISS and the other honorees. Shortly, they will add exclusive programming, show information and more. [more] From: KISSOnline The UK's Classic Rock Magazine has done it once again! Their latest US edition, June 2006, features a great KISS cover story celebrating the 30th anniversary of the KISS masterpiece, DESTROYER. Classic 1976 KISS photos appear on both the cover and in the article, along with an interview with PAUL STANLEY. From: KISSOnline KOL: There are fans who want to decide which lineup you should use in KISS. Some even get angry that their opinions seem to be ignored. How do you respond to those people? PAUL: I understand what is behind their hopes but they're living in a fantasy. Whatever someone thinks regrouping any particular lineup would achieve is wishful thinking. It's a fantasy, for example, for anyone to believe that if the original lineup got together, you'd have 1976 again or even 1996 for that matter. Time has passed and for a lot of reasons the people who made that magic have moved on. Our challenge is to always keep the integrity of the band and to remember what the band has always stood for through all the changes and circumstances that had to be dealt with. To put it bluntly, we started this band to be the masters of our own destiny and we will decide in every aspect, what we think is right for KISS. Have you ever been to a basketball game and seen people in the stands yelling directions to the coach and players? Guess what...The team knows their job and aren't polling the fans to vote on what they should do next. For us, a fan always has the choice to be a part of the KISS ARMY or to hand in their card. I respect it either way. And either way, I'm very thankful and deeply appreciative for the time we share. KOL: So what keeps you motivated to carry on with KISS? [more] From: www.andpop.com The Click Five are a bit of a paradox. First off, they seem like a blast from the past. With their retro hairstyles and matching suits, they look more like the Beatles than today's typical tattooed rock stars. Second, they are an undeniably sugary-sweet pop band, with catchy tunes that tell their growing legions of female fans they're "just the girl I'm looking for." But make no mistake - they are no boy band. The members of the Click Five each play their own instruments, they perform no cheesy dance moves on stage, and their debut album, "Greetings from Imrie House," boasts guest appearances from some pretty big names in rock, including PAUL STANLEY of KISS, and Elliot Easton of the Cars. "KISS changed my life," enthuses keyboardist Ben Romans, who along with bass player Ethan Mentzer, guitarist Joe Guese, lead singer Eric Dill, and drummer Joey Zehr form the Click Five. "PAUL STANLEY came to our show last summer; then we went to their show. Somehow I ended up going to L.A., to PAUL STANLEY's house, to write 'Angel to You, Devil to Me,' which is a track on our album." [more] From: Myrtle Beach Sun News There's plenty of dust and half-built structures inside the coming KISS Coffeehouse. Workers are there daily, trying to get it ready for a late May or early June opening. And the cafe is already looking to fill jobs. If you are interested, swing by the half-built cafe at Broadway at the Beach and grab an application. They are in a box just inside the front door. This will be a hard-rocker special. There will be servers with the trademark KISS face paint for special occasions and KISS classics rocking overhead as customers fill up on a KISS Frozen Rockuccino or a French KISS Vanilla. The coffeehouse will fill a 1,305-square-foot space at Celebrity Square, across from the Key West Grill. Band members GENE SIMMONS and PAUL STANLEY plan to attend the grand opening. From: KISSOnline Paul and Gene just did a photo shoot for Japan's BURRN! Magazine while filming interview footage for VH1's Rock Honors. Ace and Peter filmed their VH1 interviews in NY last week. Photographer John Harrell also interviewed Paul, Gene and Tommy for two upcoming BURRN! issues to promote KISS' Japan Tour dates this summer. The first issue will be released June 5th and will feature Paul and Gene on the cover. The second issue will be released July 5th. KOL spoke with John Harrell today about the photo shoot and working with KISS. "It's always a pleasure working with Paul and Gene, they are true professionals, which explains their drive and passion after 32 years. They definitely put the 'K' in klass!," Harrell said. "They know what they want and how to get it. It's almost impossible to take a bad photo of them, which actually makes it quite difficult to choose the cover shot from so many great photos. The guys are so easy to talk to and always keep things humorous." From: KISSAsylum.com Everyone at KISSAsylum wishes ERIC SINGER a happy birthday. From: Robert Weedman This is not really current news, but I thought it was kind of fun. I was watching the classic Woody Allen film Annie Hall over the weekend, and near the end of the movie, you can see a KISS billboard advertising for their now legendary 1976 concert at Anaheim Stadium in California. I have been a KISS fan for 29 years now, and have never heard anyone mention you can see this KISS billboard on Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles in the movie. Sorry the pictures are not the best, but you get the gist. I think it's pretty cool. From: KISSOnline KOL: Recently we've seen some changes on KISSONLINE. What's your involvement in those changes? PAUL: Over the years it was obvious to anyone who looked at it, that KISSONLINE was in serious trouble. I would look at it and it would look like a band's obituary as opposed to something celebrating the band that exists now and the band's rich history. I had tried in different permutations and combinations of people to get it to what I thought it could be and should be and it was virtually impossible without basically cleaning house, and maybe to somebody on the outside, that seems like something that can be done overnight, but to do something properly is more involved. There's an old saying that you don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water. You don't want to dump everything good with the bad. So it was a series of trial and error and once things were clearly turning around it was important to bring somebody in who could take it the next step with me and the organization. I was very hot on the idea of bringing in Keith Leroux, because Keith is not only a fan, but has shown what he is capable of with KISS Asylum in the last few years. So my ambition and challenge was to take the best of what Keith was capable of doing and adding it to what no one could do that did not have access to the band. So the idea was to once and for all and at any cost and I mean dollars and feelings, to finally see KOL be what it should be. KOL: How do you feel about the fan run sites? [more] From: Marty McStravick The UK KISS Expo at The Beatle's Cavern Club in Liverpool, UK on Sat 22nd July 2006 has just received news that Bob Kulick is confirmed to be a special guest for the event. Bob will do a Question & Answer session at the event. The expo will also feature a double show by the KISS Tribute "Hotter Than Hell" who will highlight their first time UK performance by paying tribute to ERIC CARR and VINNIE VINCENT in an unplugged afternoon set. The evening Hotter Than Hell show will be all plugged in and will feature Bob Kulick for a selection songs hand picked by him. From: Gypsy Rose Finally have my Official Wall Of KISS finished and thought I would share a picture of some of my most prized possessions with my fellow KISS fans. I had the PAUL STANLEY pictures on the right side framed last month and my wall is now complete. On the left side are pictures of the band, in the middle is the KISS "GOT MILK?" Ad, and the right side is all photos of PAUL STANLEY (my favorite)! From: Joe Diaz The 20th New York KISS Convention was great! Is it just me, or are Bruce & Bob Kulick the nicest guys one could meet? It was also great to meet everybody from KISSASYLUM.COM and the tribute band Kissteria did a dynamite performance. My son Scott and I can't wait 'till next year! Rock On [more] From: Getty Images Recording artist PAUL STANLEY and Erin, his wife, attend the National Kidney Foundation of Southern California's 27th Annual Gift of Life Celebration at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel on May 7, 2006 in Beverly Hills, California. Comedian George Lopez and his wife Ann Lopez were honored at the event. From: Vicious And Delicious I know what you're all thinking: "Oh god, a KISS tribute." Sure there are a ton of tribute albums out there devoted to "the hottest band in the world" but this one is a little different. The quick explanation: High school teacher, Patrice Beaudette, from Quebec, decided to create a KISS tribute using high school teens on vocals and former students as the band. An interesting concept that is a breath of fresh air. Like I mentioned, there are a lot of KISS tribute albums, some good and some bad, but this one is good. The band performs the songs extremely well, at times I forgot I was listening to musicians other than KISS! As for the vocals, they're pretty good. Should we expect these young women and men to be Gene & Paul? These young people do a wonderful job. You may notice a French accent in most songs (well, they are from Canada) that adds character. The young women change a couple of lyrics and arrangements in spots but they are still dead on to the original songs. Another big plus is the song selection. Usually, a tribute consists of bands playing it safe and doing the normal standards but we get tracks like "Love 'em And Leave 'em" from ROCK 'N ROLL OVER, "Rock Soldiers" from ACE FREHLEY's FREHLEY'S COMET, and "All American Man" from Side 4 of ALIVE II. Kudos to BRUCE KULICK for contributing an interview and supporting the project. Only 500 CDs were pressed! Just back from Australia and it was amazing! This country is just so cool. ESP (ERIC SINGER, John Corabi, Chuck Garric and myself), had two sold out shows down under and I want to thank all the fans and friends who came out to support us in Melbourne and Sydney. We arrived early on a Tuesday morning after leaving on Easter Sunday. You cross the international date line so it takes like two days to get there. The weather was awesome. Our promoters from RIOT distributors where there with my old friend Paul Drennan. Paul has been in my band when I have gone solo and now has a band called Six Hours. We all hung out in cafes till the hotel rooms were ready. St Kilda in Melbourne is a hip kind of Melrose Ave hang, and the cafes and people are very cool to see. Got acquainted with the rooms finally, and then off to do interviews and some window shopping, and then a great dinner on Chapel St to discuss the schedule etc. We all felt right at home in Melbourne. Next day of course was the show, and I up early to take a walk and enjoy the city. Sound check was long, as we all had to check out the gear we were using, and soon it was show time. The crowd was great, a few drank too much, but all in all what an amazing evening. We did a long meet and greet afterwards and I sold many of the KISS forever DVD's that night. Our show was tight and we felt really strong on stage even though we were quite jet lagged.
