Back from a weekend with GFR and got a chance to visit Sedona, as the Thunder Valley Rally with Blood Sweat and Tears, and Steppenwolf, was in the Camp Verde area of Arizona. Really amazing how colorful the mountains are, and the ones I took on my cellphone prove it. I have lots more pix from my cellphone this time, and they look good! Took one of a dog that was in Harley gear, and ready to ride! Not sure how my dog Joe would do, but this one looked all ready to go on the hog. From: Theo Kompier In Roden (Holland) at the Rodermarkt Parade, a yearly event on the fourth Saturday of September, The KISS Army was alive and well! The parade goes through the whole town, and the cars in it are designed by schools, companies, soccer clubs or other groups who want to make one. The main theme for this year's parade was "show", and my son's school choose the "mini playback show" and they wanted people dressed in KISS costumes around the car. Since they know that I’m a long time KISS fan, they asked me if I could help with the make-up, which I did. However, because I was a little bit late (because of my son's soccer game) I could only do the "Peter" for the afternoon show (top photo). For the evening show (bottom photo) I did all the make-up. To make a difference between the two, I did "Peter" in the afternoon a little bit different. Once they where on the street the reaction of the people who watching the event was great. Now, everbody can see that the KISS Army is still alive in Holland! Rock 'N Roll All Night And Party Every Day! From: KISSOnline Here's the current cover of Fontana Distribution's bi-weekly new release book. Only about 2300 of these sales books are printed and sent out to buyers. Fontana is handling the distribution of the KISSOLOGY DVD and this cover features images from inside the KISSology book.. though the Gene image submitted to Fontana for the cover (from '75) has since been replaced with a '77 image. Making this cover kind of unique. Details are forthcoming regarding the 3rd bonus discs that will be available in the initial pressing of KISSOLOGY only! There will be three different bonus discs, all featuring exclusive bonus concerts... anywhere from 7 to 12 songs per bonus disc. From: A&E Episode 09 - "Fantastic!" - Playboy Radio welcomes Gene in studio and conducts a search for his biggest fan. The prize - a day with Gene to spend however they choose. Gene pulls out all his cool clothes to get ready for his hot date, only to be stopped by Shannon, who insists his clothes are corny and old-fashioned. While Gene is having a most unexpected fan encounter, Shannon and the kids sacrifice Gene's gaudy garb to the fashion gods in an unforgettable ceremony. View a trailer for the episode at www.aetv.com/genesimmonsfamilyjewels/ gsfj_episode_guide.jsp?episode=189430 From: Blabbermouth Original KISS members GENE SIMMONS, PAUL STANLEY and PETER CRISS are being inducted in the inaugural class in the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. The Hall honors artists or groups that were either born on Long Island, or resided on Long Island for a significant portion of their career. The induction ceremony and all-star jam will take place on October 15 at the Patchogue Theater for the performing arts in Patchogue, NY. Tickets are now on sale. PETER CRISS is listed as one of the confirmed attendees along with Billy Joel, TWISTED SISTER, Leslie West and MOUNTAIN, Joan Jett and more. Tickets for the event are on sale now at www.limusichalloffame.org From: Associated Content KISS is one of the largest grossing heavy metal bands still touring today. They helped define the genre of heavy metal in it's infancy and all of it's sub-genres and cultures. They are the Rolling Stones of the Heavy Metal genre. Chances are where you may not be able to bring to mind a song of theirs, if you listen to rock and roll or metal on a regular basis, you've heard and will recognize at least one of their songs, if not who it's by. The song that makes the 10th spt on the list is "You Wanted The Best" found on the album "Psycho Circus" (released in 1998) and their "You Wanted The Best" Live convert album (released in 1996). This was a song that was composed when the original members (GENE SIMMONS, PAUL STANLEY, ACE FREHLEY and PETER CRISS) got back together. The band throughout their history had many break ups, shake ups and make ups. The band was never seen without their famouns makeup in their initial stages. PETER CRISS however left by 1980, followed by Ace in 1982. Then in 1983 KISS ditched the makeup and costumes. The lineup changed many times in the next decade until 1996, at which point they donnered their costumes and trademark makeup once again. In this song each band member has a line in each of the verses that reiterates things that they said about each other to the media. They did a brillant thing by being honest about their opinions of one another, taking them and saying them to each oterh in the song, but stressing in the chorus that regardless of what they thought of each other, they had a duty and an obligation to give the fans what they wanted. Hence the refrain "You wanted the best. You got the best." [more] From: Eric-Singer.com On October 24, 2006 Restless Records will release "Butchering The Beatles" featuring the BIGGEST, the BADDEST, the HEAVIEST all-star line-up ever assembled to honor what is arguably the greatest band ever -- THE BEATLES. All-in-all, over 50 internationally known recording artists bring their unique bone-crushing slant to these remarkable songs. Produced by Grammy award-winning producer/guitarist Bob Kulick and ace engineer Brett Chassen, Butchering The Beatles features 12 new, ass-kicking versions of The Beatles chart-topping hits including Hey Jude, Feel Fine, and Day Tripper, plus the more esoteric Hey Bulldog, barked out by the legendary Alice Cooper and Tomorrow Never Knows, uniquely interpreted by the iconic Billy Idol, alongside classic concept songs like Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and Magical Mystery Tour. When asked by Guitar Player magazine what possessed him to go all metal on the Beatles, Bob Kulick stated that, Beatles songs are the Holy Grail. They re the best rock songs ever written. These new recordings are totally faithful, yet completely different. Billy Gibbons singing Revolution or (Motorhead bassist) Lemmy singing Back In The USSR are not exactly Paul McCartney or John Lennon. And of course, the guitar solo sections were lengthened to accommodate all the artists solo styles. [more] From: EddieTrunk.com Spent last Sunday in Los Angeles shooting an interview with GENE SIMMONS and PAUL STANLEY for VH1 Classic that will air as a one hour special staring in mid October. I’ll get you all the specifics when announced in the TV section [of EddieTrunk.com]. The interview was taped at the old A&M records lot, a very cool studio/building now run by Jim Henson. The entire interview is all based around the upcoming KISSology DVD which comes out on Halloween. I am lucky enough to have an advance of this amazing set and trust me you will be blown away. Some of the stuff has been around as bootlegs, but this is by far the best sound and picture quality. I spoke with Gene and Paul about most of the stuff on the DVDs, it was amazing how clearly they remembered events that took place 30 years ago or longer. Some great stories and insights from them about this amazing DVD set. Again, all the air info when I get it. By the way, the DVD is called KISSology Vol. 1 for a reason! There are more volumes coming next year documenting other moments in the band history. Off camera Paul told me about his upcoming solo tour and album. The backing band will be the group from Rock Star (the house band) and he plans on doing some really cool, obscure KISS tunes, some never done live. I don’t want to blow any secrets but needless to say I put my requests in ("A Million To One" anybody?). Gene filled me in during a lunch break on his many projects and business ventures both KISS and non-Kiss related. It was a great day and the guys seemed to be in great spirits. My only regret is that we didn’t have more time as I had so much stuff I was hoping to get into. We also shot some exclusive interview footage with the guys that will be used for promo use and also shown in movie theaters. There will be a screening of a condensed cut of this DVD in theaters, which should be awesome, that will include some set ups from the guys. I’ll have much more news and DVD giveaways and promotions once we get closer to release. Great graphics and a huge 18" x 18" board. $19.95 at KISSmuseum.com From: Dave's on Tour Dave's On Tour's David Iozzia posted a NEW interview with ERIC SINGER on his Website. A portion of it follows. You can read the whole interview, including questions about Eric's involvement with Alice Cooper, Ronnie Montrose, and others, at www.davesontour.com Dave: Alice Cooper, when he tours supporting a new record, always seems to play four or five new songs mixed in among all of his classic hits. As a music fan, I love that mix and I feel it keeps it fresh. How challenging is it for a band to work new material into the set list when most of the audience only wants to hear the classics? ERIC: Don’t I know that! Just like when I’m touring with KISS, the fanatics want obscure songs and the average person wants all the hits. It’s a fine line you try to walk. I give Alice or any artist a lot of credit for doing new records and putting new product out when at the same time you have an established career and a big song catalog. There’s only so much time, and the show is the length what it is. You can only do so many songs. Alice has to do "I’m Eighteen," "School’s Out," and "Billion Dollar Babies." If you don’t play those songs, it’s sacrilegious. The remaining percentage of the set list lets you put in an obscure song or something you haven’t played in a long time, and then you can’t overlook the new record you’re touring to promote. Dave: Is there one "golden oldie" that KISS never plays that you’d like to dust off and work into the set list? [more] From: KISSOnline Yesterday 2,000 bags of KISS Army Blend Coffee were sent to the Rhode Island National Guard serving in Iraq, compliments of the KISS Coffeehouse and Mills Coffee Company! Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, visited Mills Coffee Company in Providence, RI, to thank the KISS Coffeehouse team for donating the KISS Coffee to the RI National Guard members serving in Iraq. "I am pleased to support any effort made by our business community to bring a little bit of home to our troops who are serving so bravely in the war against terror," said Congressman Langevin. Mills, the official roaster of KISS Coffeehouse products, generously matched the 1,000 bag donation by KISS Coffeehouse. "Along with creating the most exciting coffeehouse in the marketplace, we all wanted to recognize the men and woman serving overseas. Hopefully, our rocking coffee will give them a lift", added KISS Coffeehouse owner Brian Galvin. Local Providence/New Bedford NBC TV affiliate WJAR covered the event. Hill and Frehley both appear on a list just published onto the Internet by SoundExchange, which collects and distributes royalties from digital music providers. The list consists of about nine-thousand artists who SoundExchange can't find to pay them digital performance royalties collected between 1996 and 2000. Some are names we haven't heard in some time, such as Strawberry Alarm Clock, Iron Butterfly, Mr. Mister, Cannibal and the Headhunters and The Trashmen. Others seem like they shouldn't be that hard to find, including Foxy Brown, Patrick Swayze and 'N Sync. The list also includes Ray Parker Junior, A Flock of Seagulls, Arrested Development, Loverboy, Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead, Men Without Hats, Peter, Paul and Mary, Savage Garden, Joey McIntyre, Danzig, Sister Hazel, The Cardigans, The Ohio Players and L7. From: liveDaily Nearly three decades after releasing his debut solo album, KISS singer/rhythm-guitarist PAUL STANLEY is set to deliver a follow-up, and will back the disc with a fall tour. Three days after kicking off his tour, Stanley will issue "Live to Win," his sophomore solo effort. The album's title track will be available exclusively via Apple's iTunes Music Store starting Sept. 26. [more] From: Billboard The KISS Army may be able to pack its gear for a tour in the near future, but not an album. The group's PAUL STANLEY, preparing for the Oct. 24 release of his solo album "Live To Win" and an attendant tour, tells Billboard.com he's "sure there will be a [KISS] tour at some point." He even confirms that one of the ideas being discussed is a traveling version of the orchestral shows KISS played in 2003 in Australia, which resulted in the "KISS Symphony" CD and DVD releases. "It's not out of the realm of possibility," says Stanley, who welcomed his second son, Colin, with wife Erin on Sept. 6. "Anything's possible, but we're far away from conforming or committing to something like that. I'll let you know when it's true." [more] From: KISSOnline PAUL STANLEY's backing band for the LIVE TO WIN Tour will be the House Band from the CBS TV Show, ROCK STAR. The band appeared on the first season of the show - ROCK STAR: INXS, as well as this year's ROCK STAR: Supernova. Comprised of Paul Mirkovich (Keyboards), Jim McGorman (Guitar), Rafael Moreira (Lead Guitar), Nate Morton (Drums) and Sasha Krivstov (Bass), the House Band is an eclectic, skilled group of professionals who know rock and roll. "From the first time I saw them perform, I knew they were the band that could help deliver the songs for my solo tour with lethal force. Trust me; this is going to be awesome!" Paul told KOL. Sutton is an attorney. From: KISSOnline Where other bands have fan clubs, KISS has a full-fledged Army of the most rabid and loyal true believers in the world. For more than three decades, the KISS Army has wanted and demanded nothing less than the best from their band and across all those years, that's exactly what KISS has always delivered. The biggest, baddest, most triumphant show band in rock & roll history, KISS has weathered and transcended the fads, follies and delusions of an industry based on the quick buck and the passing fancy. In the past thirty years, a thousand musical trends and genres have come and gone and come again -- sensitive singer-songwriters, glam, metal, punk, alternative, garage, roots, new wave, goth, hardcore, grunge, industrial, techno, retro, hip-hop, teenybop pop, boy bands, girl groups, etc. etc. -- and through it all, there has always been KISS. KISS endures because the band is archetypal, iconic, larger-than-life and louder than thunder. The band, the brand, the blood, the fire and fireworks, the spectacle, the shock and awe and wonder of it all. KISS has always given its Army the Best Rock in the World and neither side has ever settled for less. And, for all the flash and arena-sized theatricality, the core of KISS is really the music, as potent and powerful and connected to the true heart of rock & roll as any band or artist or performer of the past century. [more] From: Unrated Magazine It might seem a pretty daunting task to release your first solo album after more than 25 years, not to mention only your second solo record ever. But if there's anyone out there who knows how to write and put together a good album it's PAUL STANLEY – frontman extraordinaire and half the brain of KISS, the mega-famous group who's sold more than 100 million records worldwide. The aptly titled long-awaited release, Live To Win, was woven by Stanley as a labor of love. Without the need to rush through the creative or recording process, Stanley put this album together the way one would expect of this sapient artist. Though self-produced, Stanley collaborated some of the song writing with Desmond Child – known as ‘Midas' in the music industry for his ability to make songs he's contributed to turn to gold, and also Marti Frederiksen, Andreas Carlsson, and John 5. A collective bank of talent that has backed up hits by artists such as Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Ricky Martin, Marilyn Manson, and Britney Spears. Former KISS guitarist, BRUCE KULICK, makes an appearance on the album as well. The first song is also the title cut, "Live To Win," a quintessential rock anthem. It's hooky with powerful rock guitars and a hard-hitting force. Stanley is Rocky Balboa, Stanley is the hero that's just pulled a child from a burning building, Stanley is the stellar performer who proves that he has nothing to prove. From: GameSpy RedOctane made a great impact last year with the incredibly fun Guitar Hero, a game that allowed players of all skill levels to become a virtual guitar god. At E3 2006, we had a chance to get our hands on Guitar Hero II, a sequel that's set to offer much more in terms of gameplay features, multiplayer options, and new songs. Without a doubt, what players are looking for most from Guitar Hero II is the new songs, so without further ado, here's what we've learned thus far. Black Sabbath returns with another classic track to go alongside fan favorite Iron Man with War Pigs. Other songs include Butthole Surfers - Who Was In My Room Last Night, Rush - YYZ, Van Halen's version of the Kinks' You Really Got Me, Reverend Horton Heat - Psychobilly Freakout, and KISS - Strutter. Hard rock band Drist, who had a song in the original Guitar Hero, will also have an exclusive track in Guitar Hero II, Arterial Black. Drist's Marcus Henderson is the guitarist behind recording many of the guitar tracks in the original Guitar Hero as well as Guitar Hero II. There's one other track that was unveiled, but I'll get to that soon enough. In the multiplayer mode, Player 1's lead guitarist no longer splits up his playable track when joined by a friend, and is instead accompanied by a second audio channel performed by Player 2. Depending on the song, this track can either be the bass, or a second guitar handling rhythm. Don't be fooled into thinking that the lead guitar will always be the star of the show, though. On the last of the unveiled tracks, Primus' John the Fisherman, Les Claypool's bass lines take center stage, both in terms of challenge and their contribution to the overall sound. It's also interesting to note that this song is the first Guitar Hero track to be an original master -- this isn't a cover, but Primus' actual studio recording. This could possibly pave the way for additional actual studio recordings making it into Guitar Hero II. [more] From: GeneSimmons.com Kindly check with TOWER MUSIC in LA for exact details. From: KISSAsylum Not our demon, but the man who's songs repeatedly were confused with KISS bass player GENE SIMMONS's early work, (showing up on bootleg compilations traded by fans in the 1980's), passed away at age 69. In particular was his hit "Ring Dang Doo" which, although KISS' GENE SIMMONS publicly denied being his song, was still officially listed under (Jumpin') GENE SIMMONS and therefor considered fact to some. The fact that neither the music nor the voice matched even the Demon's most melodic attempts did not seem to sway public opinion. (Jumpin') GENE SIMMONS died Tuesday at North Misssissippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a long illness, according to Holland-Harris Funeral Directors. Simmons was notable for his novelty song, "Haunted House" in the 60's, and more recently wrote Indian Outlaw, a big hit in 1994 for county superstar Tim McGraw. He will be missed by the countless misinformed bootleg collectors from around the world. From: KISSOnline KISSONLINE received hundreds of emails asking about a rumored KISS/QUEEN Tour, so Thursday night we asked Paul about the rumor. "While the guys and I are huge fans and friends of QUEEN and Paul Rodgers, and touring together would be great...no KISS tour plans with or without QUEEN are currently in the works," Paul said. One Tour that IS in the works, is the PAUL STANLEY LIVE TO WIN Tour which will kick off in late October with 15-20 shows planned across the US. KISSONLINE will bring you the Tour dates as soon as they are available. From: WPIX GENE SIMMONS and family were interviewed on the WB11 Morning News earlier this week. [more] |
