From: Eric-Singer.com Well another NAMM Convention has come & gone yet again... It was great to see familiar faces and old friends again. It seemed like it was only a few months ago since the previous NAMM. What happens to time? I guess it is like a drummer always speeding up... Anyways, I saw alot of kool new drums & stuff over at PEARL & ZILDJIAN and stopped by Universal Percussion to say hey to the ATTACK drumhead guys too. [more] From: Comic Book Resources News broke this morning of the creation of the KISS Comics Group and its inaugural title, "KISS 4K." A joint venture between Platinum Studios and the hugely popular, multi-platinum American rock band KISS, the new title will be the first KISS comic ever produced in concert (heh) with the band themselves. Platinum will debut the "KISS 4K" with an oversized $50 Destroyer Edition at the Wizard World Los Angeles Convention in March, with an ongoing series to follow in May by writer Rcky Sprague and artist Kevin Crossley. Additionally, an online KISS comic will run concurrently to "KISS 4K," expanding on the continuity and story of the print version. As Platinum put it to CBR News, "Think ‘Civil War,' without having to spend a ton of money and without having huge continuity problems." CBR's Jonah Weiland spoke this afternoon with KISS members GENE SIMMONS and PAUL STANLEY as well as Platinum Studios founder/chairman Scott Rosenberg about the band's affinity for comics and their involvement with "KISS 4K." Gene & Paul, thanks for talking with me today. It's been about three years since KISS was last published as a comic series. Why is now the right time to make a return to the comics medium? A mysterious and beautiful figure reveals to each KISS member that they carry the world-protecting warrior spirits of the 4K — but have they learned this incredible secret too late?" Apparently Gene and Paul will be attending Wizard World in Los Angeles, March 16-18. Check out the website: www.kisscomicsgroup.com/en/index.php . From: Reuters/Hollywood Reporter The rock group KISS has partnered with comic-book production company Platinum Studios to create a new comic-book entertainment company called the KISS Comics Group. This is not the first time there have been comics featuring the members of the band, but it will be the first time that KISS -- under the banner of KISS Catalog Ltd., run by original members GENE SIMMONS and PAUL STANLEY -- will produce its own comic-book-based characters. The co-venture aims to be more than a publisher; it plans to expand the comic-book characters' images onto multimedia platforms including print, mobile, online, film, television and licensed merchandise. Stanley recently released his second solo album "Live To Win" (coming 28 years after his self-titled 1978 solo debut) and backed it up with a hugely acclaimed US club tour late last year. Stanley has only done one previous solo tour in 1989, so the buzz amongst fans about the shows was huge. And he had the backing band to make it very special, the band everyone has wanted to see live - the fantastic musicians who formed the house band in the hit CBS TV series "Rock Star: INXS" and "Rock Star: Supernova". I literally couldn’t believe my eyes, or ears for that matter… There was too much talent in one spot at one time. From: KISSOnline Louis Antonelli was 12 years old and an amateur photographer when he first met KISS guitarist PAUL STANLEY. It was 1974 and KISS was appearing at a Mt. Prospect record store. "Paul gave me a lot of encouragement," recalled Antonelli. "He looked at me and said 'promise me that you're going to be the best that you can be.'" Antonelli drew inspiraton from his encounter with the musician, and as KISS grew into international icons, Antonelli became a professional filmmaker, directing features, commercials and music videos for artists including the Ramones and Metallica. [more] From: Blabbermouth World Entertainment News Network reports that KISS bassist/vocalist GENE SIMMONS has laughed off the racism row engulfing British reality TV, insisting there will always be prejudiced people in the world. "Celebrity Big Brother" has created controversy in both Britain and India over allegations Bollywood beauty Shilpa Shetty has been subjected to a torrent of racial abuse since entering the program's sealed compound earlier this month. But Simmons, who stars in his own reality show "GENE SIMMONS Family Jewels", says, "What's the big deal? Some people are racist and some are not. Either you show reality, or you don't." Here's 10 we think are the coolest of the crop. As long as there have been cities there have been musicians and poets paying homage, tribute, and generally laying out their love of these thriving metropolises (or in some cases quaint little burgs) in words and music. Nothing short of a beautiful woman has managed to conjure up so many laudatory declarations as the thousands of big cities and little one-horse towns that dot this great wide world of ours. From New York all the way to Shangri-La, the concept and atmosphere of the city and town is virtually inescapable. [more] From: GeneSimmons.com This foto is from CARROT TOP's show in Vegas, to which I was invited and attended..you'll see this and much more when this episode airs in the New Season of GENE SIMMONS FAMILY JEWELS in the Spring. From: PaulStanley.com/Premier Guitar Magazine When I checked my voicemail that early September day, I was shocked to hear that smokey, distinctive voice. He had left a message telling me that he had a solo record coming out, and wanted to talk to me (and the House Band) about playing with him. I immediately called my childhood friends and told them about the call. Growing up in the South Jersey/Philly area, rock n' roll was our upbringing. KISS, Bon Jovi, Cinderella, etc. They were the soundtrack of our high school days. When I finally spoke with him, he was as cool and down to earth as anyone I have ever met, let alone someone who has sold around 80 million records. After a few phone calls, Paul and his manager, Doc McGhee, invited us to dinner. It was over a meal that they offered us a job to be Paul's band for a monthlong tour to promote Paul's new record, Live to Win. The timing was such that there were a few weeks left on the second season of Rock Star. After the last show, we only had a week before we had to start learning KISS/Paul songs. It was bit tight, but we learned about twenty songs and started rehearsing right away. Keep watching their site for new merchandise additions - www.kisscoffeehouse.com From: KISSOnline Tommy was on hand yesterday in support of his friend PGA Champion golfer Shaun Micheel at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in Palm Desert, California and had a few photo-ops with fans and the BHCC girls. Shaun officially unveiled the KISS logo on his new tour bag this week. Shaun told KISSONLINE, "The KISS logo represents my deep appreciation for the band and the music that they have made over the years. I've been a fan for as long as I can remember and I wanted to be able to add something very special to my golf bag. I'm very fortunate to be able to call them friends and I look forward to seeing them out on the road in the near future." Shaun then added, "I've been asked by many players and fans about the logo. Most people know me as an avid KISS fan and the reactions have all been great. I've been amazed at how many fans are out there and interested in what the band is up to and whether or not they are going to be touring again. Of course everyone wants backstage passes, but I guess that's the price you have to pay when you are representing a "Hall of Fame" band." From: Fox News KISS rocker GENE SIMMONS is peddling an "elegant" new perfume. Guitar god Carlos Santana has a new line of sexy women's shoes. And "Two and Half Men" star Charlie Sheen is shaking up the kiddie couture market. Why are these already successful stars branching out into what appears to be foreign and very unlikely territory? You guessed right: It's all about the Benjamins. Please tell me that you will not forget about the 80's. I know some fans don't really care for the non makeup years but that was my KISS. I was a teenage in the 80's and went to dozens of shows. And, it WILL include stuff from the 80's. QUESTION: Gene, A friend of mine works at a distribution company that handles comic books. He tells me there is a new KISS comic book coming fairly soon. Is he leveling with me? Can you say anything yet? --- Rob Taylor, Tampa, FL [more] From: KISSOnline Dear KISS, We attended the cricket match today in Hobart to watch Australia kick New Zealands butt, a nice change as we've been getting a bit sick off thrashing the Poms. [more] From: Kulick.net Sorry it has been a while, but with my trip to South America and then the holidays, it has been a while since I got into the studio for recording my new solo disc BK 3. Here are pix from last Saturday, January 6th, when I finally was able to have my close friend and ESP (the band) partner ERIC SINGER cut drums for a great heavy song. I saved this one for Eric, and when you hear it you will all understand. Right now the title is just ROCKER as it has the classic rock vibe from my days with KISS. Eric had some ideas for extending the ending when I first played it for him a while back. He really got comfortable, breaking some sticks from hitting hard, sweating it out, and just overall giving the track a great feel. Like Brent Fitz back in early December, he played along with the Pro Tools Demo session for the song. Jeremy Rubolino, my co-producer and co-writer, was quite happy and of course can't wait to cut the real guitars and bass on this track, as Eric did a perfect job of getting the vibe we wanted. To complete the fun that day, I just got an original 1979 PAUL STANLEY IBANEZ guitar in great shape. I had to show it off to everyone, and I know I will record with this guitar. Can't wait to show to Paul, as he is the authority on his signature model. This one shows the age, but is in excellent shape. My good friend Ken Gullic who works for FONTANA, the distribution company that is putting out the KISSOLOGY DVD's, came to give out some goodies to Eric and my brother Bob, and of course check out the music and the surprise of the guitar being at the session. We had a great afternoon; even Joe came down and posed in the guitar case! To read more of Bruce's Blog visit his Website at kulick.net. From: USA Today PAUL STANLEY likes to rock. But these days, this founding member of '70s supergroup KISS is also content to roll with the family at home. When he's not touring in support of his new solo disc, Live to Win, he's at his Tuscan-style villa with wife Erin, their 4-month-old son, Colin, and 12-year-old Evan, his son from his first marriage. "We enjoy entertaining, but we don't go out, we don't go to clubs," says Stanley, 54. "There's no Viper Room. For us, it's the diaper room." [more] From: The Onion The Onion Website features this photo and caption in their "Scientific Advancements" slideshow parody. You can view the rest of the slideshow at www.theonion.com. From: Travel Girl Magazine The thought of KISS front man GENE SIMMONS unraveling his famous tongue may not evoke thoughts of a fragrant bouquet, but that hasn't stopped the rock legend from unveiling the band's latest love child: KISS fragrance. Launched at some 2,000 department store counters this past fall, the fragrance line is not for the faint of heart. It's infused with a bold blend of cumin, white pepper, cypress, moss, and honeyed amber (pour hommes) and wild red poppy, wet fig leaves, and vintage mahogany (pour femmes). Sidebar products including Lovin' Body Lotion, Rockin' Bath Splash, and Party Shower Gel even contain an extra dose of pheromones - said to increase sexual libido - for those who really want to live like a rock star. While other bands from the KISS generation have all but faded into oblivion, these iconic rockers have managed to reinvent and market themselves. They've even christened a new coffee shop - KISS Coffeehouse - in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; promising patrons a "rock and roll all night" experience after a few shots of espresso. KISS fragrance consumers will choose from four bottle caps, each with a different band member's likeness. Scheduled times will be posted at the Music Star Productions booth, #5004. From: TommyThayer.com Question 1: Hey Tommy, I'm a really big fan of yours. You are a great guitar player and I would say a very good role model. I would like to ask you, say if the planets line up and KISS makes a new album what do you think your guitar solo technique would be? Do you think you will stay closer to Aces solos or would you start your own type of sound? - Jay Bendici, Toronto, Ontario Canada Answer: Thanks for the question Jay. The most important element for a guitar solo is that it's memorable, and feels real good. Beyond that, I would say the guitar solos on a new KISS album will sound like me. [more] From: Metal Express Radio Another year has passed and it looks increasingly unlikely that KISS will be back into the studio to record a follow-up to their reunion comeback release of 1998, Psycho Circus. Since then, a plethora of reissues and compilations have plugged the gap ... some good and some bad to placate the hungry hoards of the KISS Army. KISS Alive 1975-2000 is next up in the ever-expanding KISS discography. Bringing together the uber classic Alive and Alive II pairings from the golden era of the band with Alive III from 1993 and the previously unissued The Millennium Concert plus two bonus tracks, together with an outstanding 70+ page full color photo-packed booklet, along with insightful sleeve notes and band commentary, this makes for one pretty special package. Alive has entered into Hard Rock folklore as one of THE ultimate live album: the disc that put KISS on the Rock `n` Roll map. From the explosive opening of "Deuce" to the upbeat "Strutter" to the bombastic ending of "Black Diamond" and the energetic closing pairing of "Rock `n` Roll All Nite" and "Let Me Go Rock ‘n’ Roll, Alive is the blueprint for all great live albums. Although there has subsequently been some dispute as to how "live" this album actually was, there is no denying that this is a right rollicking sonic experience from start to finish. So let me start with the amazing journey to South America. I was fortunate to take along my good friend and business associate Abba on my trip to Peru and Chile. We had different travel itineraries to Peru, and my trip started off with losing Abba in Houston due to connection problems so alone I arrived in Peru. I am the first member of the KISS family to go to Peru. The promoter Ruslan Silverman, and his lovely girl Ursula picked me up from a long day of travel. The airport is very modern in Lima, and that impressed me right away. As we drove into the city I saw many casinos, American style food chains, and an interesting style in their buildings etc. After a good night's rest in the first class hotel, they told me Abba finally arrived that morning. He had no luggage and my CD's were in his baggage, but we finally got them the next day, just in time for the show. We had a day to set up the event, with press and rehearsal with the band that I would do 10 songs with. I asked them to learn some tunes from my two solo discs, and I was pleased with the hard work they did. After many great meals in the city of Lima, and seeing a kind of festive night life (they never stop the music and dancing it seems), I was excited that show day finally arrived.
