They sold millions of records and toured endlessly - sweating it out in greasepaint and leather. But KISS are more than just a band, they're a brand. KISS fans can buy t-shirts, comic books, toys, even a KISS Koffin. The marketing of KISS changed the music biz and the resident genius-slash-showman is Gene. He might breathe fire and spit blood but he's also got his warm and fuzzy side. He's been happily "unmarried" to Shannon Tweed for more than 20 years. They have a son Nick, a daughter Sophie and a reality show called 'GENE SIMMONS Family Jewels.'

Fire-breathing rocker in makeup, high heels and black leather one day, Canadian music scout the next.

Such is the life of KISS bassist-singer-songwriter GENE SIMMONS, who is in Canada this week checking out new groups to sign to his relaunched Simmons Records label, in a deal with both Universal Music Canada and Belinda Stronach, the former MP turned businesswoman again.

"I want to find the next great three Canadian acts from different genres (each year)," Simmons, 59, said in a chic Toronto hotel bar. "And don't let them go to America. Provide the care and support that they need here, make them monsters here, and then take them to the rest of the world."

Hello everyone! Well you all heard about my trip to Memphis. Time for a visit to Nashville. Not only home of many country stars, but plenty of rock stars as well! I arrived on Halloween and checked into the Hilton Hotel downtown. With NIN playing next door at the Sommet Center I got plenty of holiday vibe, but my girlfriend Leslie and I had dinner plans on music row with Kelly Keagy from Night Ranger. I have done many shows sharing the bill with Kelly and his Night Ranger crew, and of course we both are involved with the Rock N Roll Fantasy Camps. Finally a social evening in a great restaurant, and we had a great time. I have been to Nashville many times, but not really to just hang out and enjoy. Pictured: Bruce and Kelly Keagy

This trip was a working vacation of sorts. Saturday we were up nice and early as I wanted to visit a famous guitar shop called GRUHN'S GUITARS right on Broadway downtown in Nashville. We got the special tour of the room upstairs with guitars that cost close to $300,000! I always told Leslie about them, about the really high end guitars, and there they were courtesy of George Gruhn's tour. He showed us his new prototype guitar that was quite awesome as well. After flirting with many amazing guitars it was time for a sort of re-UNION.

KISS founder's venture seeks 3 Canadian bands for partnership deals and a reality TV series

Global glory and unimaginable wealth may have eluded the vast majority of hard-working Canadian pop and rock bands for decades, but those days are over, says GENE SIMMONS, the self-made rock 'n' roll squillionaire, American marketing superstar and founder of the cartoonish glam-rock band KISS.

"I have a new business model that will get Canadian bands out on tour, onto television and into the world's mainstream," Simmons said last night as he laid out some of the details behind plans to relaunch his dormant Canadian label, Simmons Records. It's a new joint venture between the star of the hit reality TV series GENE SIMMONS Family Jewels, Magna auto parts heiress and former Tory/Liberal MP Belinda Stronach, and Universal Music Canada.

PAUL STANLEY might very well live his life by his penned mantra "Live To Win" but he's also a man who was born to entertain. With the sleekness of a cat, the grace of a dancer, and the sass of a mega rock star -- PAUL STANLEY just inherently knows how to put on a stellar performance be it solo or with the group he co-founded more than three decades ago, KISS.

Live To Win, the sophomore solo release by PAUL STANLEY, followed his first release by more than 25 years -- but fans not only couldn't be more delighted but also didn't seem at all put out by such a heady wait. The tour that followed suit attracted not only hard-core KISS fans, but newer, younger fans as well. And it was at the House of Blues in Chicago where the cameras were turned on and this DVD is the result. It was November 6, 2006, and for those of us who were there that night, the recording is a great way to relive a fantastic show, to maybe see some of the things we'd missed while concentrating elsewhere -- maybe too engrossed in signing along and dancing to catch every sway of Stanley's hips. But for those who weren't there that night, One Live KISS will make you feel like you were.

The DVD begins with Stanley talking about growing up in New York and at even a young age deciding that he didn't want to settle or compromise in life, he also spoke about the beginnings of KISS and also how important his family is to him. A nice view into the world of a performer beyond what we see on stage.

Having recently completed a 30-plus-date European tour, KISS will "eventually when we're ready tour America," co-founder GENE SIMMONS said during a keynote address today (Nov. 20) at the fifth annual Billboard Touring Conference, held at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York.

Referring to KISS as the "juggernaut of all rock'n'roll brands," Simmons said the band is currently working out future tour details. "We've been talking with [manager Doc McGhee] about Europe and then doing a year-long tour maybe this coming summer, but we'll see," Simmons said. "KISS and Queen, that would be a smash. That would kill. So far (it's) 50/50."

During the address, Simmons, who is also a reality TV star and entrepreneur, stressed the duties of being a live performer. "I don't care if you're Axl Rose, forgot to tie your shoelaces or your father molested you when you were three -- you're a bitch if you don't show up onstage when it says 9 o'clock," he said, drawing loud applause from the audience.

We continue our year-long KISS special feature with the 19th interview of a KISS-related figure. This week, ex-VINNIE VINCENT Invasion drummer, Andre’ Labelle talks about his tenure in the band between 1989-90. Here’s an excerpt:

Rockpages.gr: You worked together with Vinnie, Chris Lee and Robert Fleischmann on various songs that were destined for the "Guitars From Hell" album. What do you remember from those sessions and how close you were in releasing the record?

Andre Labelle: Vinnie recorded the bass guitars himself on those sessions. Robert Fleischman was the last to be tracked. I stuck around for all the vocal recording. Robert tracked the vocals effortlessly. His ability to nail it in one take was amazing. The album was to be released on Enigma records but they lost there distribution with Capital records and the album got shelved.

KISS rhythm guitarist/vocalist PAUL STANLEY has confirmed to the Clog that the band are seriously considering recording a new album. Rumours of a brand new KISS release first surfaced last week on photographer Ross Halfin’s blog. Now Geoff Barton has taken it upon himself to grab the Classic Rock poker and agitate the embers of speculation (poetic, huh?!).

Barton recently talked to Stanley and asked him:

What does the future hold for KISS?

It looks like we’ll be touring Europe as well as the States next year. You’ll be getting more of what you saw at the Download festival this past summer – the KISS Alive! vibe amped up to the max. There might even be a new KISS album at some point. I have been ambivalent to the idea in the past but I’m much more open to it now.

Why is that?

Well, I thought that I'd be content for KISS to remain a heritage act, just playing our greatest hits – Detroit Rock City and all that. But the new KISS line-up with TOMMY THAYER (guitar) and ERIC SINGER (drums) is proving to be so good, so strong in spirit, it would interesting to see how we perform in the studio. I must stress that no recording time has been booked at this point. But it if we were to go into the studio, the intention would be to make a KISS album in the style of our 1970s recordings. A classic KISS album, unmistakably.

Since it isn’t every day I have the chance to interview a megastar (and impress my two teenage children in the process), this week’s column is devoted to the one—and only—GENE SIMMONS, with whom I spoke on camera during our Mediaweek All-Stars luncheon last week.

Simmons, who emceed the event, is, of course, originally known as the larger-than-life co-founder of rock group KISS, which to-date has sold more than 80 million albums, and remains a merchandising bonanza. Gene also discovered the legendary Van Halen, managed the recording career of Liza Minnelli, is the designer of his trademark axe shaped bass guitar, has a postage stamp in his honor, and is one of the top fire-breathers in the world (thanks, in no small part, to a seven inch tongue).

But since you might know all that already, here are a few things you may not know about Simmons: he was an elementary school teacher prior to KISS, he once considered becoming a rabbi, and has never used drugs or alcohol. Never one to apparently sit still, Gene has morphed into a TV reality star, actor, producer, series creator, best-selling author and marketing mogul, including his own line of comic books, clothing and even a KISS Coffee House in Myrtle Beach, S.C. So, without further ado, let’s let the Rock God rock.

KISS co-founder, reality TV star and entrepreneur GENE SIMMONS will be the Keynote Q&A for the 5th Annual Billboard Touring Conference, set for Nov. 19-20 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York.

Billboard executive director of content and programming for touring and live entertainment Ray Waddell will conduct the Q&A with Simmons on Nov. 20 at the Roosevelt Ballroom. The Q&A will be filmed for an episode of his A&E reality show "GENE SIMMONS Family Jewels," currently in its third season.

"GENE SIMMONS' fingerprints are on virtually all segments of the music industry, particularly as it relates to the live music business," Waddell says. "We are thrilled to have him on board for our milestone fifth Touring Conference and we know his insight and the 'GENE SIMMONS world view' will be a compelling must-see for our attendees. Buckle up."

About 6 months ago I began working with Paul and Washburn’s Rudy Schlacher, Nick Ellingsworth, Bill Abel and Terry Atkins. The project I came up with was to reach out and find a way to get more organic with the Washburn PAUL STANLEY Preacher. To get more ‘raw’ while still remaining a fully spec’d and classy version of the Preacher.

There have always been fans that mimicked musician Gene Simmon’s leathers, platform boots and eye makeup, but you can’t really wear them out except to a KISS concert.

Yet his new line of "regular" clothing, if that term can be used with anything related to Simmons, has Simmons & designer Jason Dussault excited as the pair celebrated their first anniversary of their Los Angeles store this Saturday November 8th.

Canadian Jason Dussault also nicknamed "Deuce" of Dussault Apparel and GENE SIMMONS launched their first Los Angeles store exactly a year ago while filming "Family Jewels".

Amid the flood of third-party instrument peripherals emerging for the new "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" music simulation games, God forbid if GENE SIMMONS would miss an opportunity to get his brand on.

The entrepreneurial KISS bassist and reality TV star has created a replica of the bass he uses while touring, which is compatible with all PlayStation versions of both games. The GENE SIMMONS AXE Guitar is, yes, shaped like a battle axe, and includes Simmons' superimposed autograph as well as his betongued likeness in full makeup.

It has a wireless range of up to 30 feet, two sets of fret buttons, and whammy and strum bars. It should be available November 15 from Hip Street (http://www.hipstreetonline.com) for $80.

Former KISS guitarist and current Grand Funk Railroad member BRUCE KULICK will be making a very special appearance with Sin City Sinners at Hart's Wasted Space (inside the Hard Rock Hotel) in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 20, 2008.

ACE FREHLEY will be making an appearance at the 13th American Music Masters event Tuesday, November 11 at 7pm in Cleveland Ohio. The event is to Honor the life and legacy of Les Paul, the legendary guitarist and of course the creator of the Les Paul Guitar that Ace prides as his signature model. Ace is scheduled to talk about playing guitar and to demonstrate some of his signature riffs. The event is FREE with a reservation. Email education@rockhall.org or call 216 515 8426 to RSVP.

Simmons jams his way into the classroom for his charity, the Elizabeth Glazer Pediatrics AIDS Foundation. As his popular family looks on, Gene rocks the test and spirited fans cheer him on this atypical game show that tests adults' lack of knowledge as revealed by how much they've forgotten since elementary school.

My twin brother, Keith, and I have been KISS fans since 1977. This year, we dressed our families as KISS for Halloween. My wife, Katie, and I are The Fox and The Wizard. My brother and his wife, Kim, are The Spaceman and The Catman. And last, but not least, the little ones Kayne and Anthony are The Demon and The Starchild. They are huge KISS fans; they even stick their tongues out, pout on command, and know all ten members by name!

Here we are at Valley Hills Mall in Hickory, NC. We were bombarded all night by flashing cameras and crowds yelling "KISS!" One guy even wanted autographs! Hope you enjoy the pics!

Being a die hard KISS fan has its benefits. One benefit is recruiting new members to the KISS Army. What better time than Halloween to do so. My co worker Pat asked me to do the make up for her son Conner. Since I won first place in 1978 in a New York KISS look a like contest who else could she ask. Conner and I watched KISSTORY Vol. 3 as I applied his Gene makeup. At 12 years old Conners exposure to KISS was only Guitar Hero. After tonight thou I think we have a new member of the KISS Army. The power of Halloween! Happy Halloween to the entire KISS Army!
