Originally sold through ads in Rock magazines as well as small store displays, these small trinkets were quickly snatched up by us younger fans, (of the time), who didn't quite have enough money for the KISS toy Record Players, Guitars and Action Figures that had flooded the market that year. Still, these pieces are of high-quality metal construction with real gold plating and red enamel finishing highlights; quite desirable collectibles. A small amount of still-sealed near-mint condition of both items have recently been uncovered and are for sale to the first people who can grab them. The Love Gun hitmakers formed in 1972 and have sold more than 85 million albums worldwide throughout their long running career. The band recently announced they are heading back to the studio to record their first new material in ten years. [more] Paul On Fox Business Network From: FoxBusiness.com Posted: February 27, 2009 Getting Personal with KISS: PAUL STANLEY on life, art and rock and roll. http://www.foxbusiness.com Paul Rock 'N Rolls All Night And Paints (Almost) Every Day From: The Tangent Posted: February 27, 2009 He’s more famous for painting his face, not canvases, but for years PAUL STANLEY, frontman for the legendary rock band KISS, has been making the move from huge arenas to small galleries. Stanley, 57, will be in New Jersey this weekend for two art shows featuring his paintings and sculptures. The native New Yorker filled us in on his art: When did you start painting? About eight years ago. I’ve probably done 26 shows in the last year-and-a-half. Usually once a month I’m in some city in America doing an art show and this weekend is no different. How would you describe your art style? The one common thread to everything is color. I look upon painting as a challenge in terms of depicting emotions and feelings. So as far as "a style," I don’t find at this moment there is a particular style as much as there is a point of view about color. [more] KISS In Argentina From: KISSonline.com Posted: February 27, 2009 Gene was featured in the Clarin Newspaper in Buenos Aires last weekend. Derek Sherinian: "KISS was school time for me" From: Rockpages.gr Posted: February 26, 2009 Rockpages.gr conducted an exclusive interview with keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Planet X, Alice Cooper, KISS, Yngwie Malmsteen etc.). Here's an excerpt where Derek talks about his years with KISS among other things... Rockpages.gr: Was there any concert during that tour that KISS let you up on stage or you were constantly behind the stage? Derek Sherinian: I was behind the stage during the whole tour…but it was really cool to see the guys one month before the start of the tour…I mean, during the rehearsals. I couldn’t believe that I was on the same stage as Gene and Paul. That’s a great memory…Years later, they called me and asked me to play with them on the Ramones tribute (ed.note: KISS recorded "Rock N Roll Radio")…very cool song, by the way! It’s always nice to see the guys in L.A. He also started the Live Aid rock charity. At that time, he was a writer for the Georgia Straight, a local paper. I remember he started the interview with something like "you guys weren't serious up there, were you." I told him we would become the biggest band in the world and that he didn't understand what rock and roll was. It was clear we had a different point of view. Years later, when I finally got to see his band, the Boomtown Rats, I remember thinking: "..he can't be serious up there..." They soon broke up. KISS? We're celebrating our 35th Anniversary! But nothing has been more amazing in it's 70 year history then when KISS invaded the 3-D format for their 1979 Dynasty tour. KISS comes to life as never before, and never since in brilliant 3-Dimensional images. 8 studio shots and 13 live-stage shots on 3 reels make up this incredible visual record. Nothing could be closer to the actual experience of being at a KISS concert than having the members leap out at you in the 3-D format.Because of the unique chance this device gave to fans to be able to experience KISS in 3-D, it has become one of the most sought-after and requested KISS items from the 1970's KISS collectible series. The KISSmuseum has come across a small cache of these Viewmaster packets in varying rates of condition and has them for sale at the link below. As always, we will sell the higher-quality ones first. Each comes with it's own official Viewmaster viewer. We only have a limited amount so grab one while you can! KISS Viewmaster - $49.95 at KISSmuseum.com Ten Teachers Who Made a Mark in Another Field From: KISSonline.com Posted: February 17, 2009 GENE SIMMONS was included in the "Ten Teachers Who Made a Mark in Another Field" list on Britannica.com. The list also included Alexander Graham Bell, Robert Frost and US Presidents John Adams & Lyndon B. Johnson, among other greats! Everyone is concerned about the number of teachers leaving the profession. These ten individuals left teaching and went on to achieve greatness in their chosen fields. For some, you might think it possible that they would have done still more good remaining in the classroom. For others most would agree that it’s just as well that students learned from someone else. (9) It is hard to believe that GENE SIMMONS could have been a teacher. He is known best as the frontman for the 1970’s rock band KISS , known for outrageous shows during which Simmons would spit blood, breath fire, and taunt the audience. But Simmons did teach sixth grade in Spanish Harlem. Simmons was reportedly fired for, among other things, replacing the Shakespearean play in the curriculum with Spiderman comics. All KISS and Ace fans on MySpace are encouraged to add him as a friend www.myspace.com/acefrehley Scott Van Zen: "Gene is a genius!" From: Rockpages.gr Posted: February 16, 2009 We continue our KISS special feature with the 22nd interview of a KISS-related figure. This week, Scott Van Zen, composer and KISS’ collaborator during the Revenge and Carnival of Souls era remembers that time-period. Here’s an excerpt: Rockpages.gr: "Carnival Of Souls" featured no less than 3 co-written songs by you and Gene. This record is one of my all time favourite KISS albums from the non-make-up era. Would you like to tell us a few things about that collaboration and why not share with us some details about each one of the three songs? Scott Van Zen: Gene and I had written about 20 - 25 songs after the success of Revenge. At that point we were getting together a lot and just churning out ideas. Gene and Paul chose the songs for the CD. Hate is my favourite groove of all of them. Check the rest of the interview at: http://www.rockpages.gr/standard.aspx?type=13&sub=K&lang=EN Saved From Fire: Limited-Edition Guitar From KISS From: Posted: February 16, 2009 I bought the guitar from my niece three years ago. I'm a huge KISS fan. She knew I'd had my eye on it for a while and eventually she parted with it for around $1500. It's a Silvertone bass, signed by KISS, so it's a bit of a rarity. When the fire arrived, there wasn't any time to think. There was probably 50,000 other things I could have grabbed in that moment but the guitar was it. And I'm glad of that because it's very special. I get together with the boys a couple of times every fortnight and play, you know, let it rip. Check out the video, it's brief but rather funny and worth seeing. www.colbertnation.com One Step Closer To PAUL STANLEY From: Rock And Super Star Posted: February 13, 2009 Rock Star and Super Star have come a long way in their quest to achieve their milestone of someday saying that have worked with PAUL STANLEY. They have taken giant steps forward to ensure that PAUL STANLEY himself knows this through a vast array of different approaches. "I know we have his attention and he knows we are here, so to me that's a great start," says Super Star. Even if the road for the boys seems glamorous to others, it has not been to them. "We have found out why LA is the city of fallen angels," says Rock Star. "It's true," says Super Star. "We were completely naive when we first started our ventures six months ago to start raising awareness for our non-profit, We are One (named after their favorite KISS song), and its mission. We were just two kids fresh from the Midwestwith a dream. Dreams of wanting to help kids early in their recovery from drug and alcohol abuse stay clean and sober through the power of Rock & Roll," said Super Star. Unfortunately, they have fallen victim to the sharks that often sit looking for their next prey here in Hollywood. "We have been ripped off and scammed left and right, and, because of this, it's getting tougher to meet our needs of fulfilling what it is we came out here to do," says Super Star. However, don't count the Star brothers out just yet. Using KISS as their template, the twins are pushing forward. There were many times when it seemed like KISS was done, but each time they proved the naysayers wrong, didn't they? Says Rock Star, "Super Star and I will prevail. As long as our heart is in it and we have the best of intentions, I don't see how we could ever lose - no matter what the outcome." Rock Star and Super Star do have another success story under their belt that they are very excited about sharing with members of the KISS community. Their forthcoming effort titled "Serenity" is a bone chilling and emotional 12-track concept CD based on the struggle of drug addiction between the two brothers. "With help from Bob Kulick and his partner, Brett Chassen, we are moving as fast as we can to get this CD out there. Our music is like no other and will blow you away!" says Rock Star.? They don't have the great PAUL STANLEY behind the mike yet, but they were able to line up a solo or two from BRUCE KULICK on one of the most explosive inspirational tracks to come out in music in years. Not only were they successful in lining up Bruce for the solo (in an effort, of course, to make it primed and ready for PAUL STANLEY, according to them), they were also able to convince him to bring in a very special guitar. "It's the very same guitar that was used on some classic KISS songs, including "Larger than Life", from KISS Alive 2, "Tonight You Belong to Me", from PAUL STANLEY's 1978 solo album, and the anthem "God Gave Rock & Roll to You 2", from KISS Revenge. The guitar is a beautiful 1953 Les Paul. "The tone is unmistakably KISS," says Super Star. "It's enough to give any KISS fan chills upon first listen and never in a million years did I ever imagine it would be able to be heard on one of our songs," says Super Star. "I think Bruce did this because he knows we are going to reach a lot of people and are going to send the most positive message. He was awesome to work with and I can't believe how much his playing contributed to the track. He's a monster! It gives me just another reason to stay sober and should prove to everyone that sobriety is cool!" continues Super Star. [more] Bruce Springsteen Accused of Stealing a KISS Song From: TwentyFourBit.com Posted: February 10, 2009 It’s a good thing YouTube didn’t exist back in the day or the folk movement may have never happened. Chatter has started around the Internet about the similarities between Bruce Springsteen’s new song "Outlaw Pete" and the KISS hit "I Was Made For Loving You," after a YouTube user posted a video comparing the two. It’s the whole Coldplay/Satriani/Creaky Boards controversy all over again. In the video, the repeating main riff and melody of Bruce’s ode to an Appalachian-born outlaw is strikingly similar to KISS’s stadium anthem. However, the two songs don’t meld together very well when they are overlapped, as opposed to when Coldplay’s "Viva La Vida" was overlapped with Joe Satriani’s "If I Could Fly," it basically sounded like the band had added The Satch’s guitar solo to the song. Another user has posted a video pretending to be GENE SIMMONS attacking The Boss for plagiarism and threatening a lawsuit, but we’ll have to wait and see if the real Simmons, or any other members of KISS, are offended by Springsteen’s possible borrowing of their melody. Something tells me we’ll be hearing from GENE SIMMONS on the subject. Until then, check out the video and judge for yourself by clicking here. "The KISS Army has a new princess and her name is Sarah Brianna," says Stanley, 57. "Erin and I feel truly blessed with the addition of this Star Child into our lives."
