KISS Mention in WCW/NWO Magazine
From: Larry D.
I was at a bookstore the other day and as a big wrestling fan I pick up a copy of the wrestling magazines. And in the WCW/nWo magazine under the top ten list of why Sting is not the perfect man, #2 is because your parents keep calling him that guy from Kiss. Because Sting these days has been sporting a crow look that has the look of KISS in it.
Information Needed: Ace Frehley Guitar by Washburn
From: Juern / KISS Kollector Online
KISS KOLLECTOR wants your help! To provide more quality information for the fanzine we request your help for information regarding the 1986 Washburn Ace Frehley model guitar. Juern Schulze is currently working on a project about the custom-guitars built for the members of KISS back in the late 70's and the 80's (such as Gene's "axe"-bass or the famous Ibanes PS-10 from Paul).
Back in 1986, Washburn built and sold a guitar designed for Ace Frehley, called "Washburn AF-40 V Ace Frehley".
It's really hard to find any further information about this guitar nowadays, so today we request your help. If you should know anything about this guitar or if you can provide photoprints or weblinks to sites regarding this instrument please email Juern Schulze at Mr.Jones@t-online.de>.
Kiss Mentioned on Prime-Time Live on ABC
From: Thomas Koontz
Wednesday night at 10:00 PM eastern
Actually the story did not involve Kiss. But, the story of a young girl that went by the name of Starr who was a Playboy Playmate in February of 1977. It went on to tell of her life in the fast lane during the 70's and her decline due to drugs, alcohol, and prostitution. She was recently found murdered along with several other prostitutes, a mystery
which remains unsolved. During her 70's success as a Playmate it mentioned aquaintences such as Elton John, Rod Stewart and a semi-serious relationship with Kiss bassist Gene Simmons. The story showed several photographs of her posing with Kiss. It then mentioned during her relationship with Gene, one of her Playboy pictorials had her
posing with a bass guitar.

KISS Jewelry?
From: Steve
Since we're on the subject of Kiss jewelry, I thought I'd write about a few things coming out for the upcoming tour. There will be Kiss jewelry officially licensed by Kiss & Sony. Some of the pieces will include a sterling silver logo necklace, a Gene Simmons face ring (not the same one shown on site from Italy), as well as several other pieces each to do with all the members of the band. The jewelry has been approved, and will definetly
happen. Look for it just in time for the tour. DavidSnowden.com

For instance; if your name is Beth you get $1 off. If you're Christine and 16, it's $2 off.

Vote KISS!
From: Greg Davies
Australia wide radio station have, every year for the past ten years conducted a radio poll called the HOTTEST 100. As this is their 10th anniversary of doing so, they are conducting a special Hottest 100 that will count down THE HOTTEST 100 SONGS OF ALL TIME!! On their web page they have a list of bands you can vote for. Guess who's not on the list -- Yep, you guessed it - KISS. Not one KISS song is in the voting list which is a real disappointment as Triple J have played KISS songs from time to time. (No, not as much as we'd like, but more than those damn
commercial stations...) HERE'S YOUR CHANCE TO SHOW TRIPLE J THAT KISS ARE THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD. Anyone can vote, so have a go; there are prizes up for grabs too so you never know your luck. Vote KISS (best bet would be to vote for Rock & Roll All Night - most non-fans who just appreciate some of the band's music tend to point to that as KISS' token song..) in the 1998 Triple J Hottest 100 of ALL TIME!!!!
You also can vote AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WANT.

KISS In Barny Movie?
From: Jerry Songy
Took my kids to go see Barney's Great Adventure the other day. Here is the plot. A kid who is staying on a farm with Grandma and Grandpa is less than thrilled to be
staying in the country. Anyway, at some point Barney appears and the kid is not amused. He says Barney is not cool (I clapped at that point). Barney then asks the kid what is cool to him? The kid replies, "Rock stars that breathe fire is cool!" As we all know, Gene is the only one I know that breathe fire. So there you have it! KISS is

Richie Scarlet Update
From: Joe / KISS Hell Online
I just talked with Richie "The Emperor" Scarlet for a while about 2 new projects he's finishing off now. The first is his new covers CD "OUT OF MY PAST" which includes 8-10 cover songs mainly from the year 1966. Songs include: "Talk Talk", "I Think I Had Too Much to Dream" (Electric Prunes), "Psychotic Reaction", "Dirty Water" (Standells), "Shapes Of Things"(Yardbirds), "My Way" (from Eddie Cochran- originally cut for the WISE GUY CD) & "Hey Joe." The CD was mainly recorded as a 3 piece with Richie on guitars/vocals, Michael Ford -drums & John Valente on bass. Lenny Lee also plays bass on some songs. Richie also just edited his new live video (VOLUME II) which is less bluesy & "More rocked out!" with songs from the "WISE GUY" CD like: "Madam X", "Rebel Boy" & "Too Much Heroin." The lineup on the video is Richie-guitar/vocals, Steve 'Budgie' Werner-drums & Larry Fisher on bass. Look for Richie to hit the road again with Sebastian on May 18th in Cincinnatti-for about 2 months that will take them through Canada & the west coast. (A rush released version of Richie's new CD will be available at the NJ EXPO this weekend)
KISS Mention On "Millenium"
From: KISS Asylum andJim Pearson
Friday night on Millenium Frank's wife Katherine, upon seeing a room full of boys and girls - all the boys on one side all the girls on the other - commented that the best way to solve the problem would be to "put on a KISS album, crank up 'Beth' and they'd be together in no time." Kinda cool to hear a KISS reference on what was otherwise a grim episode!

They wanted to promote their new album, which is available here in Germany and the rest of Europe on April 27th. Only one week before they arrived here a short acoustic performance was announced. I received an e-mail from the German promoter who informed me about that. At once I phoned the promoter and asked if there was a possibility to have an interview with Bruce and John. After some phone calls, I got an interview date and was very happy.

KISS/TV Guide Responses
From: Roth
Alright, some of us made it into TV Guide regarding their dissing of KISS! To those of you who took the few minutes to voice your thoughts regarding TV Guide insulting KISS my hat is off to you. Here are the letters:
Don't dis Kiss
Jeers to your "jeer within a Cheer" regarding Kiss being selected as one of VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Rock & Roll (Cheers & Jeers, March 21.) You praise the concept of musicians voting for other musicians to make this list, but then you criticize their choices! Maybe Kiss made No. 67 because they are still making music after 20-plus years. Or maybe it's the tens of millions of albums sold. You may not like the music, but don't downplay the group's influence on generations of fans and musicians alike. Cindy Zimmerman
Dexter, Mich.Kiss meant as much to rock & roll in the 1970s as the Rolling Stones did in the '60s and Madonna did in the '80s. To suggest that Jefferson Airplane and Grand Funk meant more to rock & roll is insulting. And by the way, who the heck is Procol Harum?

KISS Merchandise Tidbit
From: Unmasked
I have some more news for everyone! I've spoken to the buyer for our company who is in charge of all KISS merchandise coming to Spencer's. She told me that in the works are a ton of new SPENCER exclusive items waiting approval from Gene including: a clock, a new bath robe, and a mirror (kinda like the Aussie ones from '80). But get this, she speaks to Gene on a weekly basis! I need everyone's help on this - I want to make a list of all the merchandise WE want to see come out for the new tour. I will get the list to the buyer (if I'm lucky I may even speak to Gene himself) and she will pass it on! Here is our chance to let him know what the ARMY really wants to spend their KISS bucks on!! P.S. I can not get any merchandise for anyone, sorry!! E-mail your suggestions to UNMASKED

"KISS Army" On Jenny Jones Show
From: KLT4725@aol.com
Today [4-9-98] on the Jenny Jones Show "KISS AMRY" tribute group was the house band for the show. The subject was something to the effect of "Freaky Makeovers" and they played before and after commercials (no songs, just KISS-like jams) and "RNRAN" at the end of the show. Of course, the crowd loved it!
Also, in the lastest issue of Spencer Gifts newsletter there's a small picture of Gene's Punisher bass. It's the April "Fool-a-thon" issue which is only avalible, I believe, if you own one of those Wild and Crazy discount cards. It's just a small mention saying: "A guy never plays a fool, but he always wants to play a bass guitar- especially if it's a baaaad one signed by Gene Simmons of KISS."

Some of the main happenings of the day are:
KISS in Toy Fair Magazine
From: Batteman
I picked up a copy of Toy Fare magizine, put out by the friendly folks at Wizard. And in it was a picture of the new Gene "Demon" Simmons doll, and the Psycho Circus comic series, Gene "The Ring Master". The two figures look great. It also said that the costumes that they wear in the Psycho Circus comic series, they will also wear onstage for their next tour.
"Beth" Single Released Overseas
From: Morphman
This was up on Hardradio's news section. I am guessing that the Beth single they are talking about it his remake with is band CRISS.
"PETER CRISS has released a solo version of 'Beth' as a single overseas, along with backing tracks, 'Blue Moon Over Brooklyn' and 'Bad Attitude.'"
KISS Karisma Website Update
From: Michael Edwards / KISS Karisma Online
Hi everyone. I just wanted to write a quick note to let you know that the KISS Karisma site has been updated. I've included a bunch of older articles from past issues, including interviews with UNION, Bruce Kulick, and Eric Singer, as well as some exclusive photos and a really cool feature called "It Came From The Vaults" that has some of the stranger photos and clippings that I've acquired over the years. While you're there, check out the subscription information page and see how you can get the latest UNION news delivered to your door every two months. The site will continue to feature both UNION and KISS, but I'm proud to announce that we will be the first all-UNION fanzine beginning with our next issue, due out in about two weeks. That one features an exclusive interview with John Corabi, as well as a cool UNION contest. E-mail me for more info! In the meantime, have fun at the new site and keep calling the radio and retail outlets to demand UNION!
KISS Karisma's Reunion Tour Photos
From: Michael Edwards / KISS Karisma Online
The photos were taken in Greensboro, NC on September 28, 1996 and in Hampton, VA on October 4, 1996. Thanks to KISS, I was able to get photo passes to both shows, and it was an experience like no other. (Anyone who saw them really close in full costume knows what I mean!)

KISS Hockey Masks
From: DerfNader
It seems Jamie McKlennan of the St. Louis Blues has more than one KISS mask. While I was watching NHL Cool Shots (the hockey show), they did a little segment on him. All the sudden, Rock and Roll All Nite started to play and they showed a few of his helmets. One had the original member's faces painted on the top with the KISS logo on the chin protector. The interviewer asked him why KISS was painted all over his masks. He replied, "Because I am a KISS fan." KISS and hockey just seem to be getting closer and closer.
