KISS Psycho Circus Figures At Spencers
From: Kissfan@discoverynet.com
Just walked into my local Spencer's Gifts in Independence, Mo. and saw a huge display of the KISS Psycho Circus figures. They said they just got them in and I was the first to buy any. They sold for $19.99 each, so being strapped for cash, I bought just Paul and Ace. Very, very cool! The pacakging is about the same as the first edition figures, but a little better. Each figure has his name (ie. Celestial, Starbearer, etc.) on the box, plus a brief description of the character. Ace's box reads - "The Celstial - Represents the principles of the universal balance, the ultimate harmony of the cosmos." Paul's reads - "The Starbearer - He who draws from the deep wells of the soul and emotion. Bringer of the passion and pain." Some random thoughts - Paul's arm- and knee pads look cooler than I thought, but his hair is too straight. Ace's hair is cut very short on top, but his costume looks great. One thing, while most of you will be thinking about buying these figures for just the band members, you'll be surprised at just how great the other figures look! Stiltman is very well done and you can almost feel the slime dripping off the Jester and his twisted little dog! Now it's off to an ATM and back to pick up Gene and Peter!

[KA Note: Just a note to remind all online fans that you can order the KISS Psycho Circus Figures at The Spiders Web for around $42.00 plus shipping for ALL 4 figures! Special July 9th UNION Show
From: Bruce Kulick
Just wanted to let everyone know that during this time while the UNION Tour '98 second leg is shaping up UNION will be making a special appearance on JULY 9th at the Coconut Teaser on Sunset and Laurel Canyon Blvd in Los Angeles. On that night UNION will be just one of several bands playing during a benefit in honor of the late West Arkeen. As you all know, UNION's own Jamie Hunting was the bass player for "Outpatience," the band West Arkeen was in when he died. There will be a low cover charge, and there will not be guest list of course because it is a benefit. UNION is scheduled to go on at the Coconut Teaser at 10:30 PM, and I'll update everyone if there is any additional info. We will not be playing a full set, but we are looking forward to playing some songs for the fans nevertheless. So, if you are in the area come on out to hear UNION and support a very worthy cause.

The Cleveland KISS Expo is back! The promoters of the NY, Philadelphia, Chicago & Toronto shows have joined forces with a new massive location to make this convention as the show it was meant to be! Wizard World Chicago '98
From: UNIONRules
Fans of the Psycho Circus comic and KISS Action Figures might like to know that creator Todd McFarlane is scheduled to be the guest of honor at the Wizard World Chicago '98 convention. The Wizard World convention is a comic and Sci-Fi affair, and there will be tons of other guests there too like the guys who play Darth Vader and Boba Fett! Here are some more details:
Bruce Kulick Joins Boot Camp Ranks
From: fanclub@bootcamp-band.com
Ex-KISS guitarist and current UNION co-founder Bruce Kulick recently joined two members of Boot camp (Gullic & Coon) as they finished final over dubs (in Dallas) for their debut Parasol records full length release "Rise and Shine!" Kulick (along side back up vox from CheapTrick frontman Robin Zander!) added lead and rhythm guitar tracks to the Boot c. chestnut, "Rise and Shine" while in Dallas, TX in mid-May! Various fan boy members of "the Camp" describe the Kulick contribution as "...one part Thin Lizzy meets God Gave Rock and Roll To You, with a Beatle-esque
outro..."! All this from the longest standing guitarist in KISStory (12 years) and the only one who can say he was "replaced by Ace Frehley!" Rise and shine indeed... stay tuned for an anticipated September '98 release

The Kiss Multipath Musical Tour Delayed

People can also go to the Brilliant Digital Entertainment's Web site, www.bde3d.com for more information about them in the meantime.

[KA Note: This word from Gene would appear to be great news for KISS fans. KISS Boxtopper/Preview Cards
From: Robert Fletcher, Chris Cook & Dave
If anyone has not seen the new KISS cards pictured below you have to check out the
photos of these awesome new cards! These aren't the 3 cards that came out earlier, but are 9 different cards. The cards, numbered J1-J9, are a Series 1 reprint "boxtopper set" available now directly from Cornerstone Communications, Inc. One set is included in each Series 1 reprint box, and they can also be ordered directly from Cornerstone for $10 plus S&H. In addition to the pictures you see on the front of each card, when you put the back of each card together it makes a puzzle that advertises one of the Japanese "Alive/Worldwide" shows.
The intro card for the set says: "This 9 card 1996-1997 Alive World Wide Tour boxtopper subset available with the 1998 KISS collector cards Series 1 reprint from Cornerstone Communications, Inc. Limited to 350 cases."
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9
[KA Note: We originally reported these as being solely Series 2 Preview cards, but it has been brought to our attention that they are actually currently available in limited quantities as the Series 1 reprint boxtopper set as well. They may, however, still be used as Series 2 Preview Cards since their current availability is so limited and so few people have them. Sorry for any confusion. =)]

KISS Mentioned in Wizard Magazine
From: Al
Hey, thought everyone might like to know about some KISS related stuff in the current issue of Wizard (a comics/toys oriented) magazine. KISS: The Psycho Circus issue #1 is at the top of the Hottest Back Issues list at #1. Issue #9 of the comic was also listed as the 35th most ordered comic by retailers in April. Finally, Wizard calls 1998 the "Year of the Toy" and lists the Psycho Circus figures as one of the 6 lines coming this year. Not too much, but cool to see anyway.

KISS Movie Info
From: Ain't it Cool News.com via jeudyj@ms.com
Read on a cool website called Ain't it Cool News that gives up to the minute sneak info on upcoming films. Anyway, Gene Simmons was spotted attending the 24th annual Saturn Awards (motion pictures) and the guy who sent in the report on the awards show chatted with Gene and said he was "plugging a new motion picture that is being made: a Kiss movie to be directed by Adam Rifkin (The Dark Backward)." He ended the report by saying "I found out that Gene Simmons real name is not Gene Klein, but Chaim Witz, per our conversation."

Psycho Circus News
From: Robert
I just got off the phone with the Czech Mercury Records representative, Mr. Charles Kucera. He has confirmed that a planned release date for the new KISS single is August 31st and September 14th for the album. Both the single and the album have been entitled "Psycho Circus" in the release date itinerary.
For More News On This Click To KISS Asylum Psycho Circus Page
[KA Note: Again, as with the similar news we reported yesterday the above has not yet been "officially" confirmed. However, as we all know often the "official" word is often very slow in coming even when plans are in place. The fact that a 3rd Mercury rep -- in yet a different country -- is releasing the same dates and info would seem to indicate Mercury is pretty serious about these potential release dates.]
KISS Candy Bars
From: Billboard Online via Patti Heneghan
Heard about the confirmation on the KISS candy bars (one for each member) on the radio this morning, and found the following on Billboard's webpage in the "Daily News" section from June 10.
Life is getting even sweeter for Celine Dion.
The 550/Epic star's Celine Dion Celebrity Chocolates line is the result of a new partnership between licensing company Sony Signatures and Morley Candy Makers. Billboard Bulletin reports that the boxed sweets, caramel-filled chocolates shaped in musical motifs and hearts, are being touted as a "companion product" to Dion's CDs. They will be sold at major discount chains. A portion of proceeds will be donated to NARAS' Grammy in the Schools program. Future boxes, all aiding different charities, will feature LeAnn Rimes, KISS, and other acts.
KISS Japanese Box Set -- July 15

KISS Japanese Box Set
From: Julian / KISS FAQ 2
Nippon-Mercury/PolyGram PHJR-20002/12 Japanese Box is set to be released at the end of June [now July 15th], according to my Japanese sources. Due to contractual problems, the box which was due to be released in May was cancelled, but these problems have been sorted out apparently. The box will include colored vinyl versions of 9 albums and a special booklet:
Psycho Circus Box Set?
From: Polygram Records (Toronto) via Cameron MacBain
I called Polygram Records up here in Toronto, Ontario Canada and this is the information a representative gave me on some KISS stuff. The "Psycho Circus" album release date has been confirmed for September 15th,1998. He said there are also plans for a Psycho Circus Box Set to come out as well which will have "pop up" things of the original band members and other neat stuff, as well including the cd, but they're still working on it so he couldn't tell me for sure what else was going in it at this time. The boxset is planned to be a Limitied Edition Box Set, with only 5000 pieces being issued for it, and the Canada and the US versions of the boxset will be somewhat different so they'll be more valuable to each fan that buys one. He also said that there was no release date for the box set yet and they weren't sure about a price for it either. It will be announced as soon as it is available. The boxset will be a square boxset about the size of vinyl, maybe even bigger. He said that it's gonna be a "killer" boxset because alot of die-hard KISS fans that work for Polygram, including himself, are helping Polygram put this KISS boxset together.

Psycho Circus Album & Single News
From: Polygram Records (Norway) via catok/kissarmynorway
I just got off the phone with the Polygram representative here in Norway and this is what he told me: "Psycho Circus" the album is scheduled to be released here in Norway on September 14th. The first single is also called "Psycho Circus," and the release date for that is August 31st.
He also said that there are plans for a special Limited Edition packaging of the album worldwide, but that the details of this are not confirmed.
For More News On This Click To KISS Asylum Psycho Circus Page
[KA Note: The fact that Polygram representatives in two different countries are giving out very similar information would appear to indicate that the above information is at least under discussion, even if not yet "official." And though the Box Set and release dates are not "officially" confirmed yet, we believed that the news was interesting enough that KISS fans would like to know about these potential happenings and dates.]

KISS News From Germany
From: Florian / KISS Asylum News Germany
I talked today with Mercury Germany. The production manager told me that the tentative release date of the new KISS album is September 15 here in Germany too. They will release the new Remasters (Lick It Up - Crazy Nights) here in Germany as well. He was not sure about the release date, but he was sure it will not be September. He has to change the logo into the special german KIZZ logo and that will take time.

NEW KISS MERCHANDISE COMING SOON:
KISS Mention in "US" Magazine
From: James Dunn
Gene is mentioned in the new issue (pg 54, July 1998) of US magazine. Mel Gibson
is interviewing Rene Russo when she gives this account of her KISS from Gene :
Mel: What do you remember about a TV project you did called 'Sable'?
Rene: What I remember about Sable is the guy... Oh, God, this is embarrasing. Don't put this down.
Mel: What?
Rene: The guy in KISS - Gene Simmons - was the lead.
Mel: Gene Simmons?
Rene: And he kissed me in one of those scenes. And you know what he does onstage with his tongue?
Mel: Yes. [Horrified] Oh, he did that to you?! He cleaned your tonsils?
Rene: He did
Mel: This is an image of you neither of us wants to remember. Let's move on.
Japanese KISS TV Commercial
From: Dale Sherman
For fans who have heard about the television commercial KISS did back in 1996 for Japanese television, but could never get a copy, there is a video cassette out in the US featuring the commercial. Problem is, it's from a Japanese company and may be hard to find. The tape is JAPANARAMA, Volume Two (if you see Volume One, you're not going to find the KISS commercial on there). Fortunately, Wild and Woolly Video here in Louisville, Kentucky has it for rent. It's the fifteen-second commercial
on a tape full of tidbits from strange game shows, other celebrities selling their souls for car commercials, and bizarre wrestling, but you may find the tape fun anyway. (Personally, I enjoyed the guy in a bear costume having buckets of blood jet-streaming out of his head.) Just wanted to give fans a head's-up! Thought I should add that JAPANARAMA contains a certain amount of nudity in it. So be aware of this if anyone decides to rent it or buy a copy.
KISS Mention In "NY Post"
From: Kevin Coughlin
Sunday's New York Pos( 6/7/98) has a feature on Kiss in Lisa Robinson's Back Stage Pass column. The story (Kiss and Makeup: Fan army salutes glam-fathers of shock rock) centers around quotes from famous artists who were influenced by Kiss growing up. They include: Darius Rucker (Hootie & the Blowfish), Trent Reznor (NIN), Adam Horvitz (Beastie Boys), Mark McGrath (Sugar Ray), Lisa Loeb, Duncan Shiek, and Eliot Smith. Some of the notable quotes are:
" I'd put a flashlight on top of my microphone and have a broom, or my little acoustic guitar that I never learned to play and I'd pretend to be Gene or Paul. Every kid did that." -- Darius Rucker
" They were the coolest monster, loud rock band. They were superheroes to me. I was Gene Simmons in the Halloween parade. I had aluminum foil on my shoes." -- Trent Reznor
"When I saw Kiss at Madison Square Garden in the fifth grade, I knew I'd see som action from my date." -- Adam Horvitz

Don't KISS Off Gene Simmons
From: E! Online via AJ
Gene Simmons lives! So do Scott Baio, Charlie Sheen, Cindy Crawford and any other number of celebrities recently rumored to have met untimely demises. Simmons, the hardest-working, monster-faced bass player in rock 'n' roll, is but the latest to be suited for premature burial. As "widespread"; Internet-fueled gossip had it, USA Today reports, the KISS posterboy succumbed to a drug overdose. A curious story, considering Simmons, 48, doesn't fit the party-hardy rock mold, and an incorrect story. "He is alive and well," a publicist for KISS' label, Mercury Records, said today. Spokeswoman Sheila Richman says she doesn't know where the overdose story came from. She doesn't know when it started. She just knows it's bogus. It all makes for an apt title to the new KISS album that the very much alive Mr. Gene Simmons is helping bandmates finish: Psycho Circus.
KISS Concertology Project-- Opening Bands -- Help Needed!
From: Jeff
As some of you may know from the many posts on the USENET and AOL newsgroups, I am doing research for the KISS Concertology. This is a project attempting to track down and list every concert KISS has ever performed. Included in this list is such information as: date, venue, city, opening band(s), attendance, etc. The project has been in the works for three years and has been successful thus far largely because of fans such as yourselves providing a wealth of information with regard to your own KISS concert experiences. For that, I am deeply indebted and very grateful. Listing all of the opening (or headlining) bands has been a difficult chore, but 98% of the 1,634 KISS shows now have opening bands listed. I'd like to make that 100%. Which is where I'd like to enlist everyone's help, once again.

KISS of Death?
From: USA Today Life
Contrary to widespread rumor, KISS bassist Gene Simmons is alive and healthy,
according to Mercury Records. Internet reports ignited a firestorm of gossip that the
notorious teetotaler had died of a drug overdose. Nope: The band is putting finishing
touches on its Psycho Circus album, due in mid-September, and considering costume
changes for its U.S. tour.
[KA Note: Interesting that USA Today blames this "widespread rumor" as having been ignited by "internet reports" since the first mention of this topic seen on the Internet in any "widespread" fashion appears to have been at USA Today itself.]
On the same topic, A KISS Asylum visitor reports: "In one of the most bizarre news bits I've EVER heard on KISS in my 20+ years as a fan, or my several years of working with all the fan clubs, this morning Los Angeles radio station KLSX (L.A. home of The Howard Stern Show) did a newsbreak in which they reported that the story of Gene Simmons overdosing from cocaine and dying wasn't true. I was listening to the Stern show this morning, and during one of the commercial breaks KLSX did their little "Top 3" news stories. The Gene bit was one of them. Very, very strange, especially considering how famous Gene is for being so anti-drug and drinking."
KISS In Time Magazine
From: KISS Asylum
KISS is again mentioned in the June 8th issue of Time Magazine: Time 100 Artists & Entertainers of the Century. The mention, however, is extremely small in that the band is merely referenced by name on a fold out chart of 20th Centry popular music titled "The Long & Winding Roads." No surprise, the Beatles were named most influential rock musicians of the century.
KISS on Comic Buyer's Guide
From: Brett Meyer
KISS is on the cover of the 6/12/98 issue of the comic store periodical Comic Buyer's Guide (priced at $2.95). It is a Goldmine-sized magazine with color cover their logo, solo faces and a large picture of Gene's Psycho Circus character. There is a 2 page article about the band's involvement in comics with color pix from Howard the Duck, Psycho Circus and the new toy line. It is a rare mag with low circulation (much less than Combo!) Tell everyone to get'em while they last, because most comic shops order a few and when they're gone, they're gone. If anyone would like a copy, email me at

A World Without Heroes: A Dale Sherman Novel
From: Dale Sherman
THERE WILL NOW BE A SHORT INTERMISSION
Hello, everyone! Thanks for dropping by to see the newest installment of A WORLD WITHOUT HEROES. As many of you know, I am currently working on a reference book about Alice Cooper, which is scheduled to come out in November 1998. In order for me to meet my deadlines with this book, I am in need of curtailing my other projects. This will not only allow me more time to give fans the best Alice Cooper book, but will avoid rushing out new chapters for the novel every week. I would rather delay the chapters and do them right, than rush through them and give you sloppy work.
As it stands, we are at the midway point of our story and at a perfect place for a break. Do not worry. The novel will be completed! Starting in September 1998, we will go back to publishing a chapter a week and should have the novel completed just as the new KISS World Tour begins. If things go extremely well, we can throw in a chapter during the summer as well.
When we come back, we'll see the corruption of the Talismans, the end of the Elders, and the possible destruction of the universe as we know it. Not necessarily in that order, though. Also, as can be seen in the last chapter printed, not all of the members of the band are what they seem. Something to look forward to. Until then, have a great summer and stay tuned.

Eric Singer at a KISS Expo in Zaandam
From: Albert
I visited the KISS Expo in Zaandam at Saturday May 23. Eric turned out to be a kind person. He took all the time to give everyone an autograph and the chance to make a picture with him. He also performed 4 songs with the dutch band Unmasked, which played a lot of rare KISS songs. Eric played the songs: Strange Ways (Lead vocals), Nothin'to lose (lead vocals), Unholy & Black Diamond (Lead vocals) + drumsolo. I
videotaped the show. Below are 5 videoframes from the event.
