KISS - Close Encounters of the 3-D Kind
From: Ian Eckstein
In the "Tune-Ups" section of the July "Guitar World" Magazine (Billy Corgan on the cover), this small article appears:
"KISS fans who dream of being face-to-face with the masked mugs of their heroes may get their wish this fall when Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss-the re-united KISS-take to the stage once again for a world tour that promises to be something extraordinary. In what is surely a rock concert first, KISS is planning to incorporate three-dimensional effects into the stage show which can only be viewed
through special 3D glasses.
"Prior to hitting the road, KISS will be releasing a new studio album entitled 'Psycho Circus' (the title of the band's current comic book series, published by Todd McFarlane Productions, the company that manufactures the wildly popular KISS action figures). Produced by Bruce Fairbairn at One on One and A&M studios in Los Angeles, 'Psycho Circus' represents the first time the original KISS members have recorded together since 1980's 'Unmasked' Album."
KISS Mention On Mark & Brian Radio Show
From: Jheni
Today I was listening to a local radio station (KLOS in Los Angeles) and they have a morning show called the "Mark and Brian Show". I turned it on right when they started talking about KISS. They made an "official announcement" that KISS would kick off their world tour at Dodger Stadium on Halloween. They also said that the show would include a huge setup and 3-D video screens. Then they talked about "Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park" for about 5 minutes. Great coverage.
KISS Covered in Scandinavia: Tribute CD Review
From: KISS Asylum
KISS Covered In Scandinavia, a Pink Honey Records/Quadromedia release, is one of the best KISS cover discs I've ever heard. Virtually every track has been given at least a minor personal touch by the artist who performs it (though more often than not the touch is a substantial one) making this, track for track, perhaps the most creative and original disc of KISS covers I've heard. It is also one of the most polished and professional sounding, which is not really surprising since over half the artists on the disc have released albums of their own in Europe/Scandinavia. The double CD's (the second disc contains interviews with KISS) excellent packaging includes a 12 page color booklet which contains detailed information about each of the artists on the disc, as well as other Pink Honey releases.

Bruce Addresses Fan Concerns
From: The UNION Asylum
Bruce knows that UNION's great fans care a lot about him and the band and wanted to be sure he personally addressed their questions about the temporary tour interruption as soon as he got back home and had a chance to catch his breath. The UNION Asylum spoke with Bruce yesterday and here's what he had to say:
"Given the circumstances, coming home was the right thing to do. Yes, it was true that John and I were sick, but that wasn't the reason we came home. It was to regroup. We certainly don't regret any of the shows and I think we proved a lot. The management, all the promoters and the label all heard positive things and are all still 100% behind us. We will go back out on tour, and when we do it will be in a situation where we're out in a more solid sense and functioning totally on all four cylinders. We're gonna go back out and do it right, with everything in place. It doesn't do anyone any good when a show isn't given enough time to be advanced and promoted, but we don't fault the promoters for that. Even the ones that had to cancel shows saw the potential there and want UNION back. So I think that's important for all the fans to understand -- the promoters want us back, but they want us back regrouped too.

Black Diamond 3 Is Going On Hiatus
From: Dale Sherman
Back in 1990, I asked Eric Carr about his proposed cartoon show, THE ROCK HEADS. In response, he said something that I have always remembered. He stated he wished he had never made mention of the project until it was ready as he never wanted to come across as someone that says, "oh, I've got this project going, and this project's will be happening soon, and blah, blah, blah" when nothing ever happens. After all, if you boast about something that doesn't happen it just makes you look foolish.
I wish I had taken those words of wisdom to heart.
After the success of BD1 and BD2, I have been promising and promoting a third book in the BLACK DIAMOND series. The response to the project has been 100% positive feed-back from the fans. We have also had the good fortune of doing several interviews for the book with individuals that were very happy to help out. Honestly (and I have never been anything but honest in all of my dealings with the books), things were looking very good for the book and we had already planed a release date of October 1998. Yet, I have now decided to put the project on the back-burner for an unspecified amount of time.

KAOL Songwriting & Story Contest
From: Kathy Labonte
There's been a great response from people wanting to participate in the final KAOL CD, "KAOL 3: The Spirit of '78" that will be released next year. A few have even said, "Gee, I wish I could sing or play an instrument so I could be on it". Well, here's your chance.
We are having a KAOL 3 songwriting contest. For the rest of the year we'll be accepting lyrics and or poetry written in memory of Eric. Since KAOL 3 is focusing on the music of the solo albums of 1978, we have some alternative things lined up to incorporate Eric, and this is one of them. Just send your poetry, lyrics, or prose to CarrEntry@aol.com and the best entries will get to participate on the CD. Music will be composed to the selected lyrics chosen and the vocals will be performed by one or several of the veteran KAOL artists.
One entry may be used in it's entirety, or lines from several different entries could be incorporated to create the song. Full credit will be given to the individuals whose work is used and their names will appear in the credits section of the CD booklet. Together we can create the first fan based song dedicated to Eric and release it as part of the fund raising for CHoW.
If you are not a songwriter that's okay too. There is still another way for you to be included in KAOL 3. If you've got an inspirational KISS story or Eric Carr story to share, send it in. It can be a story of when you met the band or Eric alone, or a story of how they may have affected your life in some sort of profound way. Share with us your childhood or adult tale and it just might make it onto the inside booklet of the CD. We will be selecting a few of these stories to be included as part of the CD packaging.
KAOL 3 will be the final installment of the series. We'd like to get as many of the fans involved as we can. So if you aren't in a position to audition for a musical spot, there are now 2 more options for you to consider. Again, you can send your entry to CarrEntry@aol.com and for more information on this contest, check the KAOL 3 page at the MusiCare Online website: http://www.musicareonline.org

KISS In Hit Parader/Movie News
From: mtsi@nbnet.nb.ca
I was reading the Hit Parader yesterday and there was an article about KISS. It stated that Gene had hired a movie company to make a film of behind the scene footage of the production of their new album Psycho Circus, as well as footage from the Reunion Tour. It stated that this film should be ready before the end of 1998 (who knows) and could be shown on pay per view, as a TV movie, or it could be in theaters. It also had an article of the top 100 rock artists of all time: Ace came in at 42, Gene at 20, and Paul at 14.

In past interviews, Gene Simmons and company have said to expect 'classic Kiss.' Fans can also expect classic Kiss marketing. The new Official Kiss Merchandise catalog includes over 200 items ranging fromsilk ties to die-cast model racing cars. Fans can also expect the band's pending world tour, most likely to launch this fall, to be a massive undertaking. Hard Radio reports that the band is working on featuring screens with 3-D images with fans issued 3-D glasses for the excursion, among other effects.
Meanwhile, relations between the bandmembers can't be all that bad - Simmons, Paul Stanley and Ace Frehley all showed up at a concert by Union last week, a band that features Bruce Kulick, a replacement player who was turfed from Kiss when the original members decided to reform. According to the Kiss Asylum webpage, Kulick told a Dallas radio station in an interview yesterday that while the bandmembers - Simmons, Stanley, Frehley and Peter Criss - probably still have their differences, they realize what it takes to work together. Kulick pointed out that the bandmembers all appeared to be quite happily hanging out together at the Union show.
As previously reported by MTV News, the AceFrehley.com website posted that there was much dissention in the reformed ranks, charges that were vehemently denied by Simmons. For more information on Kiss in the studio, watch "MTV 1515" this Friday at 7:30 p.m., and again on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Bruce & John on Dallas Radio
From: Paul Jacobs
Bruce Kulick and John Corabi of UNION were on KEGL 97.1 in Dallas last night (May 13). The radio station played "Old Man Wise" and "October Morning Wind." John and Bruce played "Love (I Don't Need It Anymore)" and "Beth" on acoustic guitar. Both songs sounded great.
Bruce talked about leaving Kiss. He said he always knew that the reunion was going to happen sometime. He said he is still on good terms with Gene and Paul and said how cool it was that Gene, Paul, and Ace came to the Union show last week. He said it was really cool that Paul asked him to help with recording/writing demos for Psycho Circus. He said the first day was awkward, but after that it was cool. Bruce said they worked together for about 10 days and that they had some good material. He said Paul
really valued his opinions and ideas. Bruce wasn't sure if any of the material made it, but he was glad that in some way he got to help out with the album. Bruce said he thinks Psycho Circus will be a great album. He said that although Ace, Peter, Gene, and Paul probably still have their differences, he believes that they have a good working relationship and realize what it takes to work together. He also pointed out that Gene, Paul, and Ace were hanging out together at the Union show so things must
not be that bad between them.
John talked about his breakup with Motley Crue and the reason behind the
lawsuit. They also said that after all their shows they try to hang out with their
fans and sign autographs.

The cars are a part of the Racing Dreams collection of, according to the press release. "The Greatest Race Cars That Never Were!" OK. The four Kiss cars each represent one member of the band done up in full every-kid-at Halloween face paint. If we have to tell you the names of the band members, you won't want these cars anyhow. The cars are being sold on a strictly unlimited edition basis, so don't rush down to Toys 'R' Us to get them. Moseying will do just fine.

KISS Is No Longer About Music
From: David Mirlas
KISS Is No Longer About Music: by Erik Pettersson
[Sunday issue (May 10) 1998 of the Swedish newspaper Expressen.]
Eric Singer was given the boot as being the drummer of Kiss in order to make room for the original members. And when that happend the band got worse, according to Eric Singer. Eric Singer has played with Alice Cooper, Gary Moore, Cult and Black Sabbath without getting any fame. That changed in 1991 when he recorded the Kiss album "Revenge." The year after, he became a permanent member in the band. Together with Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Bruce Kulick he built the Kiss which many consider the best, technically speaking. But in January 1996 the story ended for Eric Singer and Bruce Kulick when Gene and Paul decided to put the make-up back on and reunite with original members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss.
Eric Singer is not happy with today's Kiss sound. "Kiss with make-up is a show and nothing else. Kiss without make-up was a completely different thing because we tried to play good as well," says Eric Singer. "If you listen to the recordings of the concerts we did you will see that it's obvious that we played good and were tight. Even Gene and Paul played better when Bruce and I were in the band. Today their show is fun but I won't comment the music - that would be unfair."
During May he travels around Europe doing so called Kiss Convetions, and tonight he performs at Kolingsborg in Stockholm. He doesn't exclude that he will play in Kiss again. "When we meet it's like I never left the band because we get along very good with each other."

The rest of the commercial tells fans to watch the Marlins "rock" when they play whoever.

Richie Scarlet Update
From: Joe D. / KISS Hell Online
Richie Scarlet talked about the following things in a phone interview with KISS HELL last Wednesday. Some things of interest are that; Richie, Sebastian Bach, Anton Fig & Larry Fisher recorded some new demos at Electric Ladyland studios with Eddie Kramer producing (in late April). These songs include:
"Stop The Bleeding" & "The Most Powerful Man In The World." When the Sebastian tour resumes these 2 songs will be included as well as "Big Guns" & "Wasted Time."
Richie's new CD will be out around July (the advance copies of 75 sold out quickly at the NJ EXPO). On "OUT OF MY PAST" Richie plays harmonica for the 1st time on the songs "Psychotic Reaction" & "Dirty Water." The CD also includes TWO versions of "Hey Joe" (one not listed). What's interesting is
"Hey Joe" was recorded in 1992 with James Lomenzo on bass but Richie recorded the vocals very recently. Richie says 25-27 songs were recorded for this CD & there will be a volume II out after his next original CD which he's already written 11 songs for. Some songs left from the recording sessions include "It's My Life"(Animals), "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place"(Animals), "I Can See For Miles"(The Who), "Open Up Your Door"(Richard & The Young Minds) & "We Ain't Got Nothing Yet"(Blues Magoos).
Richie Scarlet Story Volume 2-the Video is out now from Torn Ticket Prod. (5870 Ranchester Rd., #625, Houston, TX, 70036). The video includes: "She's Got Everything", "Madame X", "Hey Joe", "Rebel Boy", "Beginnings", "Sid's Dead"('Too Much Heroin'), "3'0'Clock Blues", "Angry Young Man" & 3 bonus clips from Richie's past bands. Stay tuned to KISS HELL to read our full interview with the Emperor!
KISS News Update from Muzic.com
From: Steve Araki
News from Muzic.com News Archive: May 4
Prime Time Live's segment on the "Death Of Miss February" concerned none other than Star Stowe, the former Playboy model who used to be Gene Simmons' [of KISS fame] paramour before he hooked up with Shannon Tweed, the mother of his two children.
Speaking of KISS, they just pushed back the release date of their upcoming studio album from June to September 15. No reason is being given, but they insist they're still getting
along famously. Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Ace Frehley were at last week's Cheap Trick show in Los Angeles, of which Stanley spent the first half speaking urgently into his cell phone before leaping up suddenly and departing the venue, never to return. Your guess is as good as ours, but do you remember last year when The Cure's Robert Smith took a phone call on a cell, right onstage at the Universal Amphitheater, then
quickly finished the concert and was immediately whisked to the airport?

KISS Imatator
From: Dion Kesling
Here is a picture of Robbie Williams (formerly of Take That) who in his new video is dressed up like a member of KISS. The single, 'Let Me Entertain You' is performed by Robbie and a background band who are also dressed up and wearing KISS makeup. They however are not looking like KISS (just white faces with black paint). Robbie is wearing a Paul costume, his 1976 Destroyer costume, and wearing what looks like Gene's makeup. The scene of the video is very much KISS-like with a big stage, a big drumset, explosions and Robbie flying in the air like Gene does during God of Thunder(live 96/97). He even is walking backstage with his makeup on flirting with some girls. Robbie is not wearing platform boots. Maybe he hasnt put this single/video out in the USA or other parts of the world, so I thought i send this report and picture to you to let everybody see what it is about.
